Entry Level Cable Technician – Data Center Location: Sandston, VA Job SummaryWe are seeking entry level candidates and detail-oriented individuals who are looking for a career as a Data Center Cable Technician to join our team. The Cable Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the cable infrastructure in the data center. This includes performing cable pulls, routing cables through various environments, pre-termination of cables, installing equipment, and ensuring proper grounding for racks and cables. The ideal candidate will have experience working in high-demand, fast-paced environments and be familiar with best practices for cable management and data center operations. Key Responsibilities Cable Installation & Management: Perform cable pulls, route cables through structured environments, and ensure all cable runs are clean, properly labeled, and efficiently managed within the data center. Pre-Terminations: Perform pre-termination work including testing, labeling, dressing, and running cables to ensure proper connection and functionality. Cable Routing: Route and secure cables through designated paths (overhead or underfloor) following structured cabling standards (e.g., ANSI/TIA/EIA). Rack and Equipment Installation: Install racks, cabinets, and IT equipment, ensuring they are properly grounded and securely installed as per data center standards. Grounding and Bonding: Ensure proper grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling, adhering to local and industry electrical codes and standards. Equipment Connections: Connect fiber optic and copper cables to servers, switches, and other IT infrastructure devices following defined specifications. Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose, repair, and test cables and equipment to resolve any network or equipment connectivity issues. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all cable installations, equipment setups, and network diagrams. Document any changes or updates to the data center layout. Adhere to Data Center Best Practices: Follow all safety procedures and protocols to maintain a secure, clean, and efficient data center environment. Collaborate with Teams: Work with network engineers, systems administrators, and other technicians to ensure smooth cable installations and network functionality. What you will learn: structured cabling, network cable installation, or similar roles. Hands-on experience with fiber optic and copper cabling in a data center environment. Technical Skills: Proficient in running, pulling, and terminating Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cables. Knowledge of cable labeling, testing, and troubleshooting techniques. Familiarity with structured cabling standards (ANSI/TIA/EIA) and industry best practices. Experience with rack installation, grounding, and cable management systems. Must Haves: Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in tight spaces. Capable of working on ladders, raised floors, or elevated platforms. Comfortable working in a data center environment with varying temperature conditions.

Work Environment Fast-paced, secure data center environment. May require evening or weekend shifts as part of scheduled maintenance or emergency repairs.
