As appropriate gathers input from the multi-disciplinary team stakeholders. Consistently seeks feedback to define and address problems and recommends IT solutions.
Reviews workflow and other pertinent information to formulate system recommendations that will result in efficiencies, improved patient care and/or improved data collection and analysis.
Serves as the clinical liaison on development and implementation projects, comprehensively conveying clinical care operational issues and needs.
Tests or assists the Information Systems Department in testing, implementation of new systems, upgrades and enhancements minimizing disruption and downtime
On-going system utilization throughout clinical areas:
Troubleshoots questions and problems related to clinical applications. Uses critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate issues, concerns and urgency.
Collaborates with IT team members when necessary to resolve issues by brainstorming issues, completing tasks and/or conducting thorough investigations.
Identifies trends and opportunities for system/procedural changes and/or education. Offers suggestions to improve the performance of the clinical systems and procedures.
Training and communications:
Creates, edits, and/or contributes to system documentation, policies and procedures and communications related to clinical system usage and changes in the procedures.
Develops materials and educational programs. Trains clinical system users which includes clinical and non-clinical staff, leaders and medical staff. Modifies educational presentations to meet the needs of the audience and to maximize retention and on-going behavior modification. Collaborates with Nursing Leadership and/or Nursing Staff Development to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of the educational programs involving clinical applications.
Project/team participation and leadership
Leads or participates in multidisciplinary projects and teams related to clinical system use and improvements. Uses principles of Lean Six/Sigma in project management efforts.
Through thorough investigation of the issues, identifies root and contributory causes of barriers and performance gaps.
Creates a project plan with clear objectives and timelines to streamline processes and improve overall performance in a collaborative way, recognizing key stakeholders and other contributing issues. Uses clinical knowledge, an understanding of the Hospital’s infrastructure and behavior modification techniques to reach consensus and collaborative buy-in on behavior and procedural modifications that will ultimately enable the team to reach the desired goal(s).
Maintains project tools to communicate within the team(s) leadership the status of initiatives and to keep the team and individuals on track of meeting necessary goals.
Education/ExperienceRequired:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Must have either IT experience or advanced IT education
Masters degree in related field or Nursing Informatics Certification is required within 5 years of hire
Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in an acute care setting
Working knowledge of the Nursing Department and operational functions
Preferred:
Experience developing and presenting educational programs to individuals and in the classroom setting
Demonstrated project management skills
Clinical experience in the area which this position reports
Masters degree in Informatics or a related field.

Demonstrated advanced skills and knowledge in clinical informatics
Ability to translate clinical needs into system application solutions
Microsoft office including Word, Excel, and Power Point required
For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors, vendors, and fellow members of the hospital team
Preferred
Knowledge of EPIC
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Familiarity with Lean Six/Sigma and project management tools and techniques
Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks and project components.
