Our mission is to safeguard every user with innovative proactive protection, detection, and response technologies, aiming to stay ahead of malicious actors and anticipating the threats of the future.    We’re looking for a Principal Engineering Manager to lead a team of developers to design and build the next generation of endpoint protection. This includes championing fundamentals such as performance and reliability, scaling to platforms big and small, and driving foundational changes throughout the entire Defender stack.  This team provides the potential for tremendous personal and career growth across many dimensions.  You’ll have the opportunity to work across divisional boundaries and develop a broad understanding of Microsoft’s business while making a meaningful impact on society.  Responsibilities

Partner with multiple teams across Microsoft both on the Engineering and Security Research side, architecting and implementing solutions deeply integrated into the Defender stack 

Lead a culture of excellence and innovation, driving merit based changes across the org.

Execute on architecture, design, code reviews, and development  of mission critical code.

Foster a healthy and inclusive team environment 

Provide hands-on technical leadership: architecture, design, code reviews, development, quality assurance. 

Collaborate across partner teams in Microsoft. 

Lead and grow a team of high performing engineers. 

Mentor, coach, hire, retain and grow top talent. 

Foster a healthy and inclusive team environment. Embody Microsoft Culture and Values 

Taking part in code reviews, both as a reviewer and a reviewee, to ensure the quality of the software and promote best practices within the team. 

Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code. 

Drive a fast-paced, agile, design-driven, product development cycle. 

QualificationsRequired/Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding with modern C OR equivalent experience.

5+ years engineering management experience

6+ software development experience working in the Windows OS specifically with windows internals or kernel drivers.

Proven track record architecting and developing robust and extensible solutions 

Experience with multi-threaded / parallel programming 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

4+ years people management experience Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in modern C.

OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in modern C.

OR equivalent experience.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Excellent leadership skills

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
