Within the department, the Instruction and Classroom Technician 1 performs tutoring and departmental administrative functions to support students in their academic skills development and success. Responsibilities include 1:1 and small group tutoring across modalities (in-person, online, and in the classroom), record-keeping, and promoting academic support services to students. The incumbent will also be working collaboratively and communicatively with the supervisor, colleagues, staff, and faculty, using a variety of online learning platforms and software.
Essential Functions:
Direct Academic Support to Students
Provide 1:1 and small group academic support to students in a variety of delivery modalities (in-person, online, and in the classroom).
Provide classroom-embedded support in a variety of modalities: in the physical classroom, on the learning management system, and other learning systems.
Provide holistic, caring, proactive customer service to our students as a representative of Pierce College.
Actively contribute to a welcoming, nurturing, friendly environment for students who engage with Pierce College academic support departments and programs.
Demonstrate communication and student interactions that promote and maintain a harmonious and cooperative learning community of practice with your departmental colleagues.
Promote Pierce College academic support departments to students, staff, and faculty as programs that are compassionate, equity-based, antiracist academic support services that encourage a non-deficit approach to academic support.
Develop sufficient knowledge of academic and student support programs to assist and refer students to applicable and appropriate services at Pierce College that meet the needs of the student.
Program Support
Provide aid, professional development, or mentoring to colleagues in one or more subject-specific areas.
Maintain accuracy in program scheduling and record-keeping used to collect, coordinate, and implement program services.
Learn and utilize embedded support program Canvas pages, scheduling systems, and other learning management systems, as necessary.
Required Education:
Some college credits in Mathematics or a STEM field, should have proficiency in Introductory Statistics and/or Calculus.
Required Experience:
Experience working with students who have been marginalized/minoritized, including those who may be economically disadvantaged, first-generation, and/or first time in college.
Ability to effectively juggle competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
