The Learning Tree Montessori School on Capitol Hill is seeking a substitute preschool teacher/ aide. The teacher could potentially assist in the classroom, help with lunch time, spend time on the (super nice!) playground, and gently guide young children as they settle down to nap. Once she/he/they gets to know how things work in our great little school, they may plan and lead circle times, group art projects, and communicate more directly with families. As with any school, it is helpful to have someone clean and organize a little bit, too.
The ideal candidate must love children and families, truly enjoy working as part of a team, and also be able to (eventually) work independently when it may be needed. Experience in education or directly caring for children 2 1/2-5 years old is highly desirable.
Creativity, positive energy, problem solving initiative and well-developed people skills are a must. So is the ability to be both kind and firm, and have a strong desire to work in an environment that embraces diversity.
Hours: We are open 8:00am to 5:30pm M-F. Shifts to be covered are from 5 hours to 8 hours depending on the need of the teacher requesting your help. If things work out well, there is the possibility of more permanent hours.
