Position Description:
We are seeking a Preschool Teacher for our multi-age class consisting of 3-5 year-olds for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year with the opportunity to teach a 3-4 year-old class and/or a 4-5 year-old class starting fall 2025. The current multi-age class is held Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:15-11:30am. For the 2025-2026 school year the 3-4 year-old class will be held Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:15-11:30am, and the 4-5 year-old class is held Monday through Thursday from 12:00-2:30pm. Our school year runs September through June and follows the Edmonds School District’s calendar for holidays and breaks. This is a part-time position for approximately 40 hours per month with the possibility of increasing hours up to around 60 hours per month for the 2025-2026 school year.
An ideal candidate will be able to plan and implement an age-appropriate, play-based curriculum, and will be continually seeking to improve teaching skills and classroom management. The Teacher will lead the class in a nurturing and energetic manner, and direct parents in their classroom roles, while facilitating students’ social development and experience in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Co-op.
Desired Qualifications:
- Education in early childhood development or teaching preferred
- Prior experience in early childhood education and teaching preschool preferred. Equivalent experience may include working as a nanny, paraeducator, or volunteering in a preschool classroom
- Experience in Co-op setting preferred
- Experience with engaging, objective-driven curriculum and emotion coaching
- Strong leadership skills and experience working/collaborating with parents/caregivers
- Experience working with children with special needs and/or behavioral challenges preferred
- Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification and Bloodborne Pathogen Certification are required before employment start date

Teacher Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare age and developmentally appropriate curriculum, including engaging daily activities that are sequenced throughout the year
- Lead the class and coordinate parent roles. Serve as a model for parents in working with young children
- Maintain a balanced daily schedule including creative, physical, social, free-choice, and group activities that are interactive, hands-on, and enhance students’ independence
- Spend class time leading, observing, interacting, and participating in activities with the children
- Utilize and teach positive guidance techniques
- Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers in a positive and supportive manner in relation to their child’s experiences and any relevant classroom matters
- Design Field Trips that support curriculum
- Work independently with strong time-management skills
- Participate in professional development opportunities within the co-op structure as well as externally
- Attend two monthly Tuesday evening meetings, periodic teacher meetings, and special events
- Fulfill some commitments in Summer, including classroom set-up, training, and co-teacher planning
- Work closely with the Edmonds Community College Parent Educator assigned to the class
