Position Overview:
The Marine Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the overall integration of propulsion, mechanical, and safety systems on commercial passenger and workboats.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development
Collaborate with naval architects and engineering teams in the design and development of commercial aluminum vessels. Assist the in-house design team with marine systems and unique system integration challenges.
Propulsion and Ship Service Systems
Engineer and design marine propulsion systems, including components such as engines, propulsion drives, fuel systems, cooling systems, and ventilation systems. Ensure efficient and reliable power generation and transmission to optimize vessel performance and operational reliability.
Mechanical Systems
Oversee the installation and maintenance of mechanical systems aboard marine vessels, including HVAC, hydraulic, and related safety systems.
Testing and Evaluation
Participate in the testing and performance evaluation of marine systems and equipment to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain detailed documentation of engineering activities, including quality assurance (QA) and testing reports.
Budgeting and Project Management
Contribute to project budgeting, including preparing cost estimates for new bids. Manage engineering projects by coordinating with team members and contractors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Regulatory Compliance
Stay current with industry regulations and standards, including those set by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and other relevant authorities. Ensure that production vessels comply with all applicable maritime regulations.
Experience Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or marine engineering or a related field is required.
Professional Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in marine engineering, specifically in the design, installation, and maintenance of propulsion and mechanical systems on commercial vessels. Experience with aluminum vessels is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
o Hands-on experience with marine propulsion systems, fuel systems, and HVAC systems.
o Familiarity with regulatory standards set by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) or other relevant maritime authorities.
o Experience with project management and coordination in a shipyard or marine engineering environment.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
