Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) is currently looking for a Senior Computer Vision Perception Technologist / Engineer to join their team in Seattle, WA, Huntsville, AL, or other locations.

As the advanced central research and development organization of The Boeing Company, Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) provides innovative technologies that enable the development of future aerospace solutions while improving the cycle time, cost, quality and performance of existing Boeing products and services.

Employees work in a dynamic and distributed environment where the initiative and contribution of each team member is critical to success. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a distributed (and international) team. Many projects are multi-year and end with the successful transition and integration of new capabilities to Boeing end product development/deployment. Project work can be funded by Independent Research and Development, Internal Application Development, Contracted Research and Development, or support to a Business Unit.

A successful candidate for this position will be an experienced and motivated Computer Vision and Perception Researcher, Technologist, or Engineer. They will have strong background and skills in mathematics, probabilities and statistics. Meanwhile, they will be an enterprise technical leader, mentor, and consultant. They will lead research and development (R&D) by rapidly prototyping advanced systems for aerospace products and services. They will have broad knowledge of Machine Learning techniques. They will be comfortable in taking initiative, learning from others and by experience, seeking feedback, and creating innovative ideas. They will get great satisfaction in applying and engineering solutions that will work in the real world.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops machine learning and perception ideas and systems for aerospace products and services
  • Understands the mathematics of their methods and the systems that they work on
  • Adapts and integrates various hardware and software capabilities into workable prototypes
  • Ability to design, create, and evaluate new or modified data analysis algorithms to meet application requirements, such as statistical analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, text mining, visual analytics.
  • Ability to perform research on sensor data, image processing and fusion, high fidelity world perception modeling of systems and man-machine interfaces.
  • Knowledge of science and technologies involved in modeling and simulating the physical and/or data environment in such a way that a computer can correctly interpret it and computationally reason on it.
  • Effectively communicates results to teammates and customers.
  • Demonstrates creativity and interest in personal learning and development.
  • Seeks feedback from multiple sources to improve and develop.
  • Comfortable in taking initiative and learning by experience.


The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Experience developing, analyzing, and deploying Artificial Intelligence and related algorithms
  • 10+ years of software development experience
  • 5+ years of machine learning experience in developing and evaluating learned models
  • 5+ years of experience preparing data to create learned models
  • Experience with scripting languages for prototyping
  • Experience with high level programming languages such a C, C, Java
  • Experience with Computer Vision techniques


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • PhD degree preferred in Computer Science or similar
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics, probability theory and statistics
  • Knowledge of data structure, numerical optimization and algorithm complexity
  • Experience with Machine Learning development and deployment pipeline, i.e. from data to model
  • Experience in machine learning
  • Experience in multi-modal sensor data fusion and visualization technologies are necessary for the position
  • Experience with machine learning libraries, such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch.
  • Experience with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV, PCL, or ROS
  • Experience with software frameworks such as the Robot Operating System (ROS)
  • Experience with sensors (cameras, LiDAR, GPS-IMU), embedded systems, and system integration related physical systems
  • Experience with Linux OS
  • Experience with Agile methodology and repositories, such as JIRA and Git
  • Experience in Augmented Reality and image recognition technologies
  • Publication to his/her credit in areas of machine learning and AI.


Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD + 9 or Master + 12)

Summary pay range: $118,440-$219,960
