The company celebrates strong collaboration, outstanding and innovative solutions, and passion for success. Blue Origin is searching for open-minded, high-judgement, enthusiastic candidates looking to join our diverse, team-based environment.

Blue Origin's Engineering & Program Management Flight Sciences group is looking for a talented Aerodynamics Engineer, entry to mid-level, to support the New Shepard, New Glenn, Space Systems Development, Engines, and Lunar Transport Programs.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will be supporting aspects of aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic design across all flight regimes for current and future spaceflight systems. This position will require your dedication and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight and will directly craft the future of space exploration!

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for this role will include supporting the development of airframe and Outer Mold Line (OML) design and configuration, developing tools and tool chains to automated CFD and Wind Tunnel test analyses, developing ascent and descent aerodynamic/aero-thermal databases.

This role will require performing both internal and external fluid CFD analyses to include multi-phase, and multi-species.

This team member will also support/Conduct subsonic-to-hypersonic CFD analyses and Wind Tunnel testing, perform DSMC analyses on space vehicles/platforms, and conduct aerodynamic analyses from 1st order principles to high fidelity CFD.

Finally they will be involved in all aspects of the entire program lifecycle: from early conceptual design and configuration through flight operations and sustaining engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of BS degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering

4+ years of experience with air vehicle aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, or flight mechanics

Proven experience in the development of aerodynamic and/or aero-thermal dynamic analyses/databases

Proven experience with CFD tools including CAD model cleanup, mesh generation, and solution post-processing

Strong programming skills in both Python and MATLAB

Efficient working within both Windows and Linux/Unix environments

Demonstrated effective communication of aerodynamic knowledge and impacts to other subsystems and product objectives

Desired:

MS or higher degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering

Knowledge of aerodynamic fundamentals and intuition through multiple flight regimes (subsonic, transonic, hypersonic, continuous, and free molecular flow DSMC)

Experience in aerodynamic tool development and integration with optimization/analysis toolchains

Experience with buffeting/aero-acoustics analyses

Experience with running steady-state and unsteady CFD

Preferred experience with CFD/DSMC solvers: ICFD, DAC, FLOW3D, CBAERO, LAURA

Preferred experience with pre/post processing tools: Pointwise, Ensight, ParaView, Tecplot

Experience supporting wind tunnel testing and, flight testing including data reduction and post-flight data analysis

Experience with vehicle aerothermodynamic environments through all phases of flight (launch, exo-atmospheric, re-entry, landing and recovery)
