Scientists at Amazon use statistical and ML models to address complex problems, design and test hypotheses, and contribute to the design of automated systems. We are looking for a results-driven scientist to join our team in Seattle. The right candidate will work closely with other scientists, business leaders, business intelligence engineers, and data engineers.The key strategic objectives for this role include:

Work with the AWS SMGS organization to provide data- and model-driven guidance and recommendations on business questions posed by leadership.

Interact with stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, to gather business requirements and translate them into concrete requirements for data science projects

Identify opportunities to measure and improve productivity with the end goal of driving growth.

Own data science projects end-to-end, demonstrating skill in defining key research questions, working with multiple data sources, evaluating competing models, and interpreting and communicating results.

3+ years of data scientist experience

3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience

3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience

Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment

Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or equivalent quantitative field

Superior verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts to non-experts

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language

Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Location: Seattle, Washington U.S. Citizenship Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Bachelor\'s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Health and Safety, Science, Engineering, or related field. Requires minimum of five (5) years of Industrial Hygiene experience. 10+ years of experience in environmental and/or geotechnical sampling, and/or removal oversight. Oil and hazardous materials emergency response experience is a plus. Experience providing health and safety training, preparation and review of health and safety plans, conducting safety audits and managing projects. Experience providing safety oversight and audits on field projects including releases of hazardous substances and oil; emergency, disaster and WMD response; and removal and remedial projects. Ability to plan, lead, and participate in site walks, site evaluations, removal assessments, and removal action oversight projects, including oil, and hazardous materials emergency response projects. Demonstrable experience in bio-safety, radioactive materials management, field sampling and analysis, decontamination and/or mitigation methods, emergency preparedness, radiation dose assessment and management, and/or toxicology. Demonstrable expertise and experience with OSHA, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) regulations and sampling techniques. Experience performing site assessments and collecting multimedia samples. Experience in analytical method selection and data management and interpretation. Exposure to various technical and scientific procedures Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (field equipment, PPE, etc.) Experience in preparing planning documents to methodically perform field investigations, data reporting, technical report preparation. Strong organization and communication skills. Attention to detail and self-starter. Ability to be flexible and adaptable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
