ECHO is a landmark national study that began in 2016 and currently includes over 50,000 mothers and children across the United States. The ultimate objective of ECHO is to improve the health of children and adolescents by conducting observational research that will inform high impact programs, policies, and practices. Specific focus areas are on airway health (asthma), neurodevelopment, birth outcomes, obesity, and positive health (resiliency). All ECHO cohorts collect harmonized data collection using a common protocol. ECHO AWARE will be based in the city of Yakima, Washington, and will seek to enroll up to 900 pregnancies over seven years and to collect data and specimens from pregnancy and childhood on enrolled families. Additionally, data will also be collected on a subset of mothers pre-conception.The full-time senior level Field Manager (payroll title: Research Coordinator) will play an essential role in the success of the Yakima-based cohort recruitment, retention and data collection. The Field Manager will directly oversee recruitment of participants and collection of participant data and will hire, train, supervise and oversee Community Health Workers (CHWs) performing recruitment and data collection. The Field Manager will serve as the primary Cohort Trainer responsible for training and recertification of CHWs collecting data and the primary liaison with Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic for participant recruitment. The position will play a key role in quality assurance and ensuring fidelity to the ECHO Protocol in addition to providing local oversight of recruitment and retention. The Field Manager will maintain close contact with the Seattle-based Cohort Manager, and GAPPS (the subcontractor primarily responsible for biospecimens). The Field Manager will be Spanish-English bilingual and bicultural and have experience in staff supervision and research-based data collection. The Field Manager will be based in Yakima while the research team and faculty PI will be located in Seattle.Duties and Responsibilities:

Join the UW-based study team to assess recruitment and retention of this diverse study population located in the Yakima Valley region. The Field Manager will participate in strategic planning and periodic assessment of implementation to recommend adjustments, improvements, and shifting priorities. The Field Manager will be very familiar with the funded goals and aims and will join the leadership team to integrate expectations into the recruitment study strategic planning. The Field Manager will also provide expertise regarding the study population, characteristics of the region and successful communication and recruitment/retention methods and will translate and review study materials created for Yakima site. (25%)

Hire, train and supervise up to ten Community Health Workers (CHWs) to recruit participants and collect data. Under the direct oversight of the Field Manager, the CHWs will recruit, enroll, consent, and retain participants. The Field Manager will oversee the CWAs collection of anthropomorphic measures and facilitation of self-collected biospecimens and data. The Field Manager will train some of the CHWs in medical record abstraction (MRA) and prenatal, labor, and co-train with a sub-contractor in application of birth MRA. The Field Manager will develop and implement CWA hiring and training protocols, coordinate with local colleges to recruit nursing students, and liaison with other health care providers. The Field Manager will conduct all performance management. The Field Manager will also participate in subject recruitment and data collection (35%).

Develop and oversee the implementation of the weekly CHW schedules and work plans in alignment with subject recruitment, testing schedules, and expectations of the research team as well as sponsor deliverables. This effort will require complex scheduling oversight and frequent communication with the CWAs and study teams. (15%)

Serve as study team leadership to work closely with the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic Maternity Support Services personnel to develop recruitment strategies, implement recruitment efforts, and manage participant engagement. (10%)

Serve on ECHO AWARE Protocol Implementation Team, Biospecimen Team and Community Engagement Task Force. Complete ECHO trainings to be a Cohort Trainer, attend ECHO monthly meetings. Partner with other study leadership delegated management of complex Human Subject compliance and protocol development and revisions. (10%)

Other activities as needed to support field work including identifying field office property in Yakima. Once office space is procured, assist with set up of site. (5%) Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Services, or related field.

Minimum four to five years of experience in research, community health programs or related fields, as well as the following: Additional Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently.

Research-based experience in recruitment and data collection. Familiarity with human subject compliance.

Bilingual Spanish/English.

Own vehicle to travel in the Yakima Valley (mileage reimbursed at Washington state rates) to participant homes and study office in Yakima.

Supervision experience.

Experience working in the Yakima Valley, Washington Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Desired Qualifications:

Previous field sampling and research experience.

Human subject ethics training (if not taken previously, this training will be provided).

Experience working with Yakima Valley-based families.

Work well as part of a team and with community partners.
