Position Purpose:

The UW South Lake Union Van Voorhis Lab is searching for a Research Coordinator to facilitate clinical and translational research.The role will be part of the United World Antiviral Research Network (UWARN). This opportunity offers a position of high importance for a dedicated individual interested in coordinating research activities across multiple countries, including Brazil, Senegal, South Africa, Pakistan, and Taiwan. The role presents a chance for travel, networking, relationship building, and direct involvement in critical areas of global health, pandemic preparedness, arboviral, SARS-CoV-2, and novel, emerging, and re-emerging infectious disease research, among other impactful endeavors.Primarily, this position will oversee human subjects (IRB) compliance, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and regulatory requirements for research involving human participants. Additionally, this role involves expertly coordinating in-country research projects, collaborating with local stakeholders, and skillfully navigating cross-cultural dynamics to ensure successful project execution.This position supports grant applications, supplemental funding applications, and other application processes contributing to proposal development, preparing comprehensive annual reports, summarizing project progress and achievements, and providing valuable insights for comprehensive project evaluations. Integral to the role will be the ability to effectively support in-country partners, taking on tasks such as organizing workshops, scheduling meetings, and coordinating conferences, and requires strong interpersonal skills, exemplary communication abilities, and outstanding organizational aptitude. The role requires the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively and adapt swiftly when faced with changing circumstances. The UWARN Research Coordinator will facilitate clinical and translational research within the United World Antiviral Research Network (UWARN). This role encompasses diverse dimensions, including overseeing human subjects (IRB) compliance, coordinating international research projects, supporting grant applications, and collaborating with global partners. This position strengthens the University of Washington's global presence in critical research areas such as global health, infectious diseases, and pandemic preparedness, fostering international connections and solidifying the commitment to addressing some of the world's most pressing health challenges.RESPONSIBILITIES: Development and Communication 50% Act as a primary point of contact between international and domestic collaborators, including the CREID Coordinating Center (CC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other stakeholders, facilitating seamless communication, disseminating pertinent information, and coordinating collaborative efforts.

Summarize project progress and achievements for annual reviews, facilitate comprehensive evaluations emphasizing human subjects IRB yearly assessments, and summarize project progress and achievements.

Provide comprehensive support in grant applications, including proposal development and data gathering.

Collaborate with partners to support in-country workshops, meetings, and conferences, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Actively participate in monthly CREID scientific meetings, working groups, and tiger teams and serve as a vital link between CREID and the UWARN group, effectively relaying valuable information, research findings, and general announcements.

Efficiently manage calendars and facilitate the scheduling of meetings with various stakeholders, including internal team members, external partners, and collaborators, and take the lead in creating comprehensive agendas and PowerPoint presentations. Additionally, host the meetings, fostering an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere and ensuring that action items and outcomes are documented and followed up on to drive successful project outcomes.

Handle media-related tasks such as updating the UWARN website with current information, ensuring it remains a reliable and up-to-date source of project-related content, and managing the creation and distribution of newsletters with information about project developments, achievements, and upcoming events.

Development and management of a UWARN newsletter.

Participate in manuscript production including figure preparation, citation entry, formatting, and submissionResearch Development (25%) Work at CERID – Center for Research on Emerging Infectious Disease at UW and help manage any research administration

Develop human subjects research protocols and submit/respond to queries on human subjects.

Complete IRB filings, continuing reviews, and protocol updates, coordinating with the CREID CC and international partners to ensure up-to-date human subject research protocols and compliance.

Independently develop and implement research project procedures that meet research objectives and comply with Institution, FDA, and NIH regulations.

Design, develop, document, and maintain policies and procedures for patient registration and protocol implementation.

Design, create, and revise research instruments (e.g., case report forms) to ensure quality data that satisfy research objectives.

Develop and continually assess priorities to ensure successful project execution within required time frames to meet research objectives.

Develop and maintain clinical research protocols that clearly describe research objectives and procedures to test research hypotheses.

Write informed consent documents that meet institutional guidelines and satisfy Institutional Review Board requirements.

Work with multiple groups (e.g., UW Grant and Contract Services, UW Human Subjects Review Committee, Clinical Research Budgets & Billing, and study sponsors) to ensure the timely implementation of research projects.

Phlebotomy skills are a bonusEvent Coordination, Travel Planning, Conference Organization (25%) Work with the in-country partners to organize, plan, and oversee all aspects of a yearly international conference, including but not limited to participation in venue selection, logistics, registration, and event management.

Demonstrate the ability to efficiently coordinate and facilitate large meetings in different countries, respectfully navigating cultural differences, time zones, and potential language barriers to ensure effective communication and planning.

Arrange flights, accommodation, and transportation for large groups of attendees at international and domestic conferences.

Create and implement comprehensive travel plans for UWARN partners and University of Washington (UW) faculty, considering individual preferences and budget constraints.

Prepare official letters of invitation and other necessary documents for partners and participants who require visas to attend conferences, workshops, or meetings, including reviewing travel documentation, passports, and visa applications and connecting partners with relevant resources.

Plan and execute group dinners, events, and in-person meetings, ensuring a conducive and engaging environment for networking and collaboration.

Coordinate and manage international and domestic capacity-building workshops, from initial planning to execution, collaborating with relevant stakeholders and partners to ensure successful outcomes.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a related field. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement. At least one year of experience to including:

Previous work as a Research Coordinator, preferably in the medical/health fieldsEquivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED: Actual experience as a Research Coordinator or Clinical Coordinator, preferably at the University of Washington,

Experience in clinical trials work, work in international settings or in communication with non-US investigators,

Experience filing new IRB human subjects’ approvals and maintaining them,

Experience providing consent, human subjects training, GCP training, MPH or MSc in health related fields where training in public health and clinical trials was offered,

Good communication skills, and ability to work well in a teamApplication Process:
