Under the general supervision of Dr. Igor Novosselov, the Research Scientist/Engineer 4 position will be engaged in the area of synthesis chemistry, nanomaterials, and environmental science.This position will be responsible for designing, planning, and conducting different phases of experiments for a federally funded research project. They will be involved in data analysis of the experimental results, from which they will present their findings at lab meetings, internal symposiums, external conferences, and journal publications. Data and results produced by this position will be needed for obtaining new research grants and renewals of current research grants. The successful candidate will develop their own research direction and write grant proposals as a PI on the research direction, working in collaboration with the research group. The work on the existing project will be modified as the applicant develops independent research.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Nanoparticle synthesis and characterization for imaging application

Synthesis of MOFs in scCO2 environment

Support efforts related to the removal of recalcitrant organics sorbent regeneration

Assist in the preparation of scientific papers and reports to the sponsors (DoD, EPA)

Assist in the preparation of grant proposals (DoD, EPA, NSF)

Maintain the chemical inventory and equipment related to the nanoparticle synthesis MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master's degree in Chemistry or Material Science and 4 years of job-related experience Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Nanomaterial synthesis and characterization.

Synthesis and characterization of plasmonic nanostructures.

Synthesis characterization of metalorganic frameworks.

Good technical writing skill to assist with the monthly preparation of deliverables, reports, publications, and presentations.

Strong communication skills with professors, subject matter experts, medical professionals, graduate students, and other team members to write, edit, format, and produce accurate and meaningful technical documentation. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced knowledge of molecular analysis methods (XRD, BET, SEM, TEM, FTIR).

Experience in the areas of PFAS/surface interaction.

Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, especially with medical, engineering, and other professional communities.

Grant proposal writing. Experience conducting and managing field teams for environmental sampling, subcontractor management, and procurement. Proficiency with Microsoft applications required. Knowledge of GIS, borehole logging software, 3D modeling, and/or data mapping software preferred. Familiarity with USCS Soil Classification System, wetland delineation, borehole logging, well drilling and installation, slug testing, aquifer pumping tests, Incremental Sampling techniques, Environmental Sequence Stratigraphy, and/or High-Resolution Site Characterization techniques preferred. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment across technical disciplines. Familiarity with technical proposal preparation and data management.
