However, other duties may be assigned, and may also be considered essential functions of the position.The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. The degree of fluency required will vary depending upon the nature of the position.Caregivers are expected to honor the Mission, Values, Vision and Promise and adhere to the Code of Conduct, policies and standards of their organization.For direct patient care roles: Performs and maintains currency of essential competencies as required by specific area of hire and populations served.

Performs room turnover, maintains cleanliness of the surgical area, surgical equipment and patient transportation devices as indicated by department procedure.

Handles soiled supplies according to department procedures and protocols. Performs decontamination of instrumentation and equipment as indicated by department procedure and manufacturer instructions and re-assembly of instrument sets when applicable.

Demonstrates basic knowledge of sterile technique and infection control. Assists the surgical team with preparation of the surgical suite and opening of sterile items to the surgical field.

Assists with set up of surgical suite.

Assists with patient transfers and positioning. Demonstrates position specific age related competencies.

Assists with patient care, including shave preps and surgical preps.

Assists with obtaining and the return of instruments and equipment.

Performs the stocking of cores and rooms with supplies including ordering of supplies, both stock and nonstock items. Maintains par levels of supplies. Returns unused supplies to the appropriate area.

Assist with communication within the OR including answering telephones, documenting messages and relaying messages to the appropriate individual.

Assists with transporting and escorting surgical patients and their family.

Assembles case carts to include printing of Procedure Lists, assembling supplies, instruments, equipment, and other necessary items to complete the case cart and delivers it to the appropriate surgical location.

Acts as a resource person for other employees. Assists with training of other Perioperative Care Associates. May communicate instructions to other employees, perform minor scheduling, and inspect work to separate acceptable work from unacceptable. Serves as a contact person in the absence of a supervisor or director.

Assists with quality improvement processes within Surgical Services by assessing current practices, recommending, implementing, and reassessing effectiveness of changes.

Exhibit the ability to effectively work with coworkers, supervisors, management, and customers.

Assists with transportation of specimens and equipment to the appropriate department.

Required Qualifications:

National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.

1 year - Experience performing duties as a Perioperative Care Associate II or equivalent experience in a healthcare environment.
