This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will lead implementation of risk and opportunity management in the rocket Engine Business Unit of Blue Origin, ensuring the safe and rapid development of innovative engines and propulsion systems for space applications. You'll work closely with a small team of systems engineering risk managers to set high standards for risk and opportunity management, and improve our processes, tools, and training. Through daily interaction with engineering and program management teams, you'll guide discussions, create mitigation plans, mentor colleagues, and ensure transparency in decision-making. Your role will help programs adapt their plans ahead of time to achieve better outcomes. As the Engines risk discipline leader, you will foster a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management within the organization, encouraging open communication and knowledge sharing among team members.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Act as a subject matter expert on risk and opportunity management, providing guidance and support to colleagues and stakeholders as needed

Manage risks and opportunities at the program and business unit level

Analyze and report on trends and patterns in risk and opportunity management data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement

Periodically review or audit program-level risks to ensure compliance with standards and best practices

Lead the development and implementation of risk-informed decision-making processes across the organization to drive strategic program planning

Develop filters and dashboards using JIRA & Confluence to inform priority and decision-making

Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies for risk and opportunity management to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to ensure high-value and alignment in risk and opportunity management approaches

Conduct regular risk and opportunity management training sessions for engineering and program management teams to enhance their understanding and proficiency in these areas

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant technical field

10+ years of system development/integration experience, preferably in aerospace or complicated technical systems, including some aspect of new product development

A track record of successful risk management leadership in complex, high-profile aerospace projects, demonstrating the ability to drive strategic risk decisions and achieve favorable outcomes.

Expertise in risk management standards, methodologies, and state-of-the-art tools

Strong understanding of engineering principles, particularly in the context of spaceflight applications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations, identify potential risks and opportunities, and develop effective mitigation plans.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead discussions, mentor team members, and engage with stakeholders at various levels.

Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to set and maintain high standards for risk and opportunity management.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will be responsible for the materials and processes (M&P) used to produce electronic assemblies in Blue Origin\'s Engines. You will share in the team\'s impact on all aspects of materials and processes used to build printed wiring assemblies (PWA), circuit card assemblies (CCA), cables, harnesses, and instruments; as well as a rigorous systems engineering mentality. You will become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on solders and soldering, encapsulants, conformal coating, plating, staking compounds, and other materials/processes for electronic components. Your tasks will include conducting multidisciplinary problem-solving activities and proposing solutions to prototype and manufacturing challenges. (i.e., design for manufacturability) to produce PWB, CCA, cables, and harnesses. You will also work collaboratively with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and service providers on the development, prototype, and production of electronic assemblies. Additionally, you will develop Blue Origin standard drawing notes corresponding to this hardware. At least 2 years of professional work experience in a related industry. Industry experience developing and producing printed wiring boards (PWB), controllers, circuit card assemblies (CCA), cables, and harnesses. Experience in applying commercial and military specifications and standards related to printed wiring assembly (PWA), controllers, cables and harnesses. Ability to travel up to 15% of the time. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications Ability to participate in multidisciplinary rapid problem-solving activities and propose solutions to prototype and production manufacturing challenges. (i.e., design for manufacturability). Expertise in applying relevant commercial and military specifications and standards, such as IPC (institute of Printed Circuits) standards related to PWA, CCA, cables and harnesses, and soldering. Knowledge of solder, encapsulants, staking compounds, plating, and conformal coatings callout on drawings for electronic assemblies. Experience in evaluating material/part/assembly analysis of PWB, CCA, electronic assemblies, cable and harnesses both non-destructively and destructively. Experience in Tin whisker, red plague, and corrosion mitigation of PWB, CCA, electronic assemblies, cable and harnesses.
