Join us, and find out how many ways we offer you the chance to focus on what really matters - our patients.The Surgical Technologist (ST) is responsible for facilitating the surgical procedure through the assembly of instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Surgical Technologist work as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a registered nurse, with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and other medical support personnel to provide patient care in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of the Surgical Services department and Swedish Medical Center.Providence caregivers are not simply valued – they’re invaluable. Serves in the primary scrub role during assigned core procedures. Places equipment and supplies in operating room and arranges instruments, according to instruction. Maintains supply of fluids and medications labeled and ready for use during operation. Hands instruments and supplies to surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation. Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and facilitates the progress of the surgical procedure.

Effectively coordinates equipment, supplies and instrumentation according to surgeon’s preference cards. Collaborates with members of the surgical team in the updating and maintenance of preference cards.

Functions competently within multiple specialty areas and serves in a flexible scrub role with minimal notice. Recognizes age and size of patient as a relevant factor, and applies appropriate skills in preparation for surgical intervention.

Assists team members with positioning, moving and transporting patients. Facilitates room turnover, and washing and sterilization of instruments. Competent in use of washer, autoclaves and Steris.

Assists with preparation and draping of patient. Anticipates surgeons needs in supplies and instrumentation. Applies knowledge of good sterile technique. Collaborates with circulating nurse to up-hold AORN standards as adopted by the Swedish Medical Center Policies and Procedures. Assists as necessary in holding retractors and cutting sutures.

Initiates and maintains accurate sponge, sharps and instrument counts as defined in policy and procedures.

Handles equipment appropriately and is familiar with operation and location of equipment. Maintains skills in use of specialized equipment.

Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all health team members. Communicates procedure progress/problems to circulating nurse. Concentrates on procedure in progress and keeps conversation appropriate to setting.

Handles specimens according to policy.

Prioritizes tasks. Utilizes non-direct care time efficiently. Helps others.

Required Qualifications:

Coursework/Training: Certificate of completion of a surgical technician vocational program or documentation of equivalent training.

Washington Surgical Technologist Registration upon hire.

National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

6 months of experience in a hospital operating room.
