Access to POD’s programming is seen as a valuable benefit of working at the University of Washington.The operations administrator for Professional & Organizational Development (POD) operations reports to the assistant vice president for Total Talent Management and manages the POD operations/administration team while serving as a lead instructor for the Strategic Leadership Program and the Supervisor’s Power Skills Series. The operations administrator has operational oversight for the Strategic Leadership Program, SLP Supervisor Orientation, Welcome Day, POD onboarding and administration.Engaging approximately 3,500 participants per year from across the UW, this position is highly visible and accountable. The operations administrator fosters and maintains a collaborative relationship with POD’s internal consultants and trainers and the assistant director for Total Talent Management, who drives POD’s marketing and communications strategies.The administrator of operations serves as both a tactical and strategic leader within POD and must be able to communicate clearly and persuasively about complex policies and programs, and think creatively in developing new approaches and resourceful techniques. Also serving as lead instructor on assigned courses.
The operations manager will also performs a number of complex and demanding tasks on a daily basis including:
Integrating information or recommendations from several internal and external sources;
Making theoretical and/or subjective judgments;
Developing, adapting and applying new approaches, methods and techniques;
Interpreting situations and applying best practices to achieve goals and address concerns;
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing to a variety of constituents.
Managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Approaching goals and concerns from a systems perspective while addressing and working with multiple needs and perspectivesThis position will have frequent and substantive interactions with a variety of internal and external constituents, serving as the direct representative of the assistant vice president for Total Talent Management as directed. Requires an effective leader with individual initiative, excellent communication skills, and the desire to motivate and serve multiple stakeholders while working within UW regulations and policies and ensuring overall compliance.RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations Management
Manages POD’s operational team members and has oversight for Welcome Day, SLP Orientation, the employee experience and SLP.
Contributes to the strategy to produce approximately 120 Quarterly Courses annually that meet the training and organizational development needs of the university community.
Provide a leadership and best practice focus to continually evolve leadership and employee development opportunities to meet the needs of the University.
Develop and maintain documented unit level administration processes.
Identify and implement ways to effectively utilize human, technical and fiscal resources to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
Identify and recommend improvement and enhancements that increase the cost effectiveness and utilization.
Participate in the development and administration of POD budgets, funded from both state and self-supporting sources, have knowledge of how to set rates for services, and actively pursue additional revenue streams.
Team Supervision and Development
Manages a team of three direct reports focused on specialized areas of POD’s operations, including: customer service, consulting alliance customer service, course development, online and in-person course production, and administrative oversight for POD’s key programs (Welcome Day, SLP, SLPSO)
Responsible for formal decisions on hiring operations staff, recommendation for salary levels, employee performance, promotions, reclassifications, merit evaluations, and salary adjustments, disciplinary actions, handling complaints and providing leadership in creating a productive and healthy team environment.

SLP and other assigned courses
Consultant Engagement and Committee Participation
Develop and sustain productive and collaborative relationships with POD’s internal and external trainers and consultants. And provide coaching and consulting services to university community.
Plan and participate on a variety of committees and related work groups to communicate information regarding professional, organizational and leadership development.
Additional Project Support
Includes diversity, equity, and inclusion project work, and other miscellaneous duties as program success requires and/or other duties as assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: BA in Education, Communication or Leadership plus four or more years experience as a trainer or consultant focused on organizational or leadership development.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Exceptional project management skills including developing project plans, building consensus, estimating and managing resources, risks and schedules, workload management and communications
Team leadership and facilitation experience, including demonstrated ability to create and sustain team member motivation and accountability in achieving timely and cooperative progress to goals, manage conflict and achieve successful outcomes
Experience managing budgets, competing priorities and work streams
