This 1.0 FTE Trauma Research Study Coordinator 1, under the guidance of and supervised by the Research Nurse Supervisor, is responsible for support of clinical research studies in the Trauma, Burn, and, Critical Care Division.As an integral member of the team, the Research Study Coordinator 1 collaborates with the research study team, Research Study Coordinator Lead, Research Nurse Supervisor, and multiple Principal Investigators to provide high-level support for multiple complex clinical research studies.The successful candidate will understand the research study goals and parameters and will use that knowledge to be able to identify possible research subjects and then enroll and consent subjects in complex clinical trials. They will develop necessary research forms and questionnaires and will set up and maintain databases for collecting and summarizing observations and data. Additionally, they will assist with complex study start-up activities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research Project Coordination Activities = 80%

Technical Research Coordination Activities = 20% How this Position Contributes to the Mission of the Department and the Mission of the University: These research projects are conducted at the adult and pediatric trauma center at Harborview Medical Center (HMC). HMC is the only center in Washington state for level 1 care—the highest level of comprehensive care for major injuries.The Department of Surgery is a large department within the School of Medicine, with surgeons practicing at all our locations and in eight surgical subspecialties. Serves as contact with study participants

Screens prospective participants

Explains the purpose of the research study and protocols; answers participants'/family’s questions regarding study protocol

Reviews and explains consent forms, questionnaires, and surveys with prospective subjects

Enrolls participantsTechnical Research Coordination Activities (20%)

Extracts research participants’ medical information from clinical records

Develops and maintains databases required for research data and analysis

Assists in start-up of complex clinical trials MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subject OR equivalent education/experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of research rules and regulations and willingness to adhere to Department Standard Operating Procedures for conducting clinical research

Proficient understanding of medical terminology

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing)

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Redcap development DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in industry-sponsored research in a medical setting

Training and/or knowledge in ethical conduct of research with human subjects and IRB requirements

Demonstrated ability to work with and effectively communicate with physicians, colleagues, families, and patients

Prior experience with enrollment, consent forms, and policy/procedures for clinical trials CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
