Caterer/Chef at Retreat Center

We are seeking an experienced chef/caterer to provide meals for guests attending workshops and other events here at Mosswood Hollow Retreat Center. The groups we host generally range from 15 to 35 people and run between 2 to 7 days in length. This person would be fully responsible for planning, purchasing ingredients, and preparing meals for some of our larger and longer workshops throughout the year.

We provide gourmet meals made from scratch utilizing seasonal, primarily organic, ingredients and drawing inspiration from around the world as well as what is growing in our garden and at local farms in the area. Color, form, and texture, in addition to taste, are important elements of every meal. Breakfast is a buffet, while lunch and dinner are plated.

We are looking for someone who is:

- compassionate, responsible, and reliable

- efficient at getting multiple meals out on time

- keen in their attention to detail, overseeing the quality and presentation of each plate served

- able to creatively provide for people with dietary requirements, mostly with advanced notice but sometimes on the spot

- a good multitasker with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize needs

- good at communicating; works thoughtfully and respectfully with kitchen staff

- able to identify tasks that can be delegated and orchestrate kitchen staff to carry out those tasks

- clean and organized

- able to track inventory

- conscientious about minimizing food waste

- good with people: giving careful attention to all guests, making them feel at home, and always treating them and other Mosswood Hollow staff with respect

- familiar with and willing to take the extra time and effort to make food from scratch

- comfortable with an open kitchen where guests sometimes poke their heads in to see and talk with you while you are preparing meals

Requirements:

- Prior experience as a Caterer / Chef

- Valid Washington State Food Worker Card

- Can and will reliably commute to location
