We are a UW sorority house looking for help in our kitchen beginning in late August through June. Our kitchen is open from 8am-7pm M-F, 8-2 on Saturday and 3-7 on Sundays, holidays included except for Christmas, Thanksgiving and Spring Break.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: One year minimum experience in a professional kitchen as a Kitchen Helper or similar responsibility
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current Washington State Food Handler’s permit; the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; the ability to work independently and to make independent evaluations of tasks that need to be done, knowledge of food handling and preparation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: the ability to climb stairs, bend easily, kneel, and ability to lift 40 pounds; the ability to carry out duties in a situation where there are frequently large numbers of collegians present in the areas being served
RESPONSIBILITIES: In the Dining Room, Nook, Kitchen, and outdoor area immediately outside of the Kitchen, the Kitchen Assistant is expected:
To abide by all employee policies
To arrive promptly for a shift and stay until all assigned tasks are complete
To adhere to Kitchen sanitary and safety procedures at all times, according to county and state health regulations and employer guidelines
To assume responsibility for the security of the kitchen, pantry, and storage during work hours, and to lock up as directed
DUTIES Under the direction of the Chef and/or the House Director:
Wash and put away dishes, glassware, pots and pans, flatware, etc.
Sweep and mop floor in the dining room, kitchen, back hallway, and toast bar as needed
Wipe down tables, counter tops, appliances including dispensing machines and refrigerators in dining room and toast bar
Watch the buffet line during meal service and refresh as food runs out
Put the dining room in order, including wiping down tables, sweeping or mopping floor by straightening and placing chairs so the room is generally presentable
Break down and put away all hot and cold food from buffet table, storing left overs properly
Assist the chef preparing meal ingredients by cleaning, chopping, and otherwise readying items for inclusion in various dishes
Under direction, may occasionally prepare meals
Put together “late plate” boxes as needed
Assist with answering member questions
Package and label/date food as directed
Serve food when appropriate
Re-stock items in the toast bar as needed
Receive and check in deliveries from vendors and place all items in their designated area
Prepare and set up daily continental breakfast
Prepare and set up salad bar
Report food replacement needs or items which need to be re-ordered by notifying the chef or marking on the white board
Dispose of garbage, recycling (break down boxes) and/or compost as needed during and at end of shift. Re-line garbage cans
If closing, before checking out at end of shift, double check that all appliances, including the buffet table are turned off
Secure all kitchen doors and turn off lights
And any other tasks that are reasonable and customary for this position
