The City of Redmond Public Works Department is in search of a Fleet Supervisor who can optimize fleet performance and efficiency as well as manage a team of skilled technicians. The Public Works Department is responding to the growing needs of the City and the fast-paced nature of our municipality that strives for innovation.

You are an ideal candidate if you have demonstrated experience in collaborating with stakeholders across multiple departments, possess excellent people management skills, and are interested in helping transition Redmond’s fleet program to a new era in the industry. As the Fleet Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance, and repair operations of a diverse fleet of vehicles, ensuring their safe and efficient performance. You will also help strategize for transitioning the fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) and alternative fuels.

This is a full-time onsite position.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet management program:

Ensure compliance with schedules and regulations, while reducing downtime by leveraging existing data collection technology.

Collaborate with stakeholders across departments (Finance, Procurement, Police, etc.) to develop budgets, monitor expenses, and implement cost-effective practices, contributing to financial sustainability.

Coordinate maintenance and repairs, guaranteeing compliance with industry best practices, fostering a safety-first culture.

Lead and empower a skilled team of technicians:

Provide guidance, ongoing training, and leadership to optimize performance and efficiency, fostering a culture of continuous improvement through cooperative programs and initiatives.

Supervise and lead technicians, conducting daily huddles, fleet walks, coaching, counseling, and training on performance and corrective actions.

Identify training opportunities, document issues, and engage in constructive discussions on corrective actions.

Optimize fleet performance and efficiency:

Monitor and evaluate fleet performance, proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions, contributing to enhanced operational efficiency.

Use fleet maintenance management systems and technologies to streamline operations and enhance overall productivity.

Manage comprehensive data collection for operational and financial reporting, providing valuable insights for informed decision-making.

Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, providing coaching where necessary; may road test vehicles to determine repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Three years of experience in fleet maintenance management

Supervisory experience preferred; Demonstrated leadership experience or team lead experience.

High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certificates:

Valid Washington State Driver’s License and a driving record that meets city standard.

NAFA Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS) designation or equivalent from a nationally recognized automotive industry professional organization preferred.

Other:

Plan, schedule and monitor the activities related to the operation, maintenance, and repairs of City of Redmond vehicles.

Evaluate and authorize equipment and vehicle upgrades, purchases, and repairs/reconditioning/replacement.

Manage City fuel delivery, consumption and storage program while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.

Remain current on OSHA/WISHA/DOT/NHTSA/FNPA compliance standards.

The work is performed in a shop environment around heavy equipment, with exposure to loud noise, exhaust fumes and caustic materials. In addition, this role is also subject to 24-hour call out to respond in emergency situations.

Offers of employment are conditional based on the candidate successfully passing both background and reference checks. Internal candidates are subject to passing a new background if the previous check was conducted more than six months ago.

New hires relocating to the area are required to have Washington State residency within 30 days of their start date to comply payroll tax purposes.
