Caregiving Job Description
1. Interact with residents, family members, DSHS, and others with professionalism
2. Implement Activities of Daily Living with consistent respect of privacy and professionalism
3. Perform turning and/or positioning of residents, ROM according to directions.
4. Provide excellent personal care with emphasis on infection control and resident’s right to privacy and dignity
5. Safely prepare meals using proper food handling techniques, following weekly meal schedule and residents’ individual dietary needs
6. Have an understanding of Dementia and Mental Health and effectively intervene when residents have behavior issues
7. Protect the general safety and promote quality care of the residents through adherence to established house rules, policies and procedures
8. Work independently as well as support team members
9. Capably manage residents and works with other team members in the event of physical or environmental emergencies
10. Maintain communication with the home owner and/or resident manager regarding work issues, the home’s status, resident issues, and other topics important to the successful operation of the home
11. Report suspected abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation promptly to DSHS hotline and supervisor following the home’s policy and procedure
12. Assist in planning and preparing residents for medical appointments, social outings and other appointments
13. Clean the home to ensure orderly and neat appearance while also ensuring safety
14. Launder resident clothing and home’s laundry promptly and efficiently
15. Maintain accurate/clear progress notes in resident log, incident reports, MAR’s, etc
16. Assist resident’s with medications following the home’s policies and procedures
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
1. High School Graduate
2. Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Care Aid approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing
3. Have all classes according to State requirements
4. Speak and write fluent English
Credentials & Training
1. Current CNA, HCA, LPN, or RN license (prior to hire)
2. Current CPR card (prior to hire)
3. Current First Aid card (prior to hire)
4. Background Check (upon hire)
5. 2 Step Tb (step 1 within 3 days of hire)
6. Fingerprint Check (within 7 days of hire)
7. Current Food Handlers card (by start date)
8. Nurse Delegation Certificate (by start date)
9. Diabetic Delegation Certificate (by start date)
10. Dementia Certificate (within 90 days of start date)
11. Mental Health Certificate (within 90 days of start date)
12. Complete 12 hours of qualified continuing education (annually)
Physical Requirements
1. Balancing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, pushing/pulling, lifting, feeling, hearing and talking are essential to working at Gentle Pines AFH.
2. Ability to lift and move a resident for transfers/repositioning.
3. Visual activity involves recording data accurately, extensive reading, visual inspection of conditions and/or equipment, operation and inspection of machines, and using measurement devices.
Mental Requirements
1. Ability to handle physically and mentally stressful situations as well as the capacity to function during acute emergencies.
2. Must be able to work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset and at times, hostile individuals.
3. Must be able to work independently.
4. The work requires high attention and mental demands including the ability to prioritize and process information with accuracy and clarity.
5. Must communicate effectively with staff, physicians, residents and visitors. Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
6. Work schedules may include day, evening, night and weekend shifts. You may also be required to be on-call, work overtime, or have shifts reduced or cut as applicable.
