We are seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver (or caregiver couple) to provide full-time live-in support and assistance to an elderly couple.
The role will primarily involve taking care of this elderly couple. The husband has dementia and requires consistent monitoring and assistance with simple tasks. The wife is physically challenged and needs support with mobility, meals and other daily activities. The ideal candidate will have a background in assisting older individuals in an assisted living setting, ideally have experience working with dementia patients, possess exceptional patience, and be capable of balancing care with respecting their need for privacy and quiet time.
The role is a full-time live-in support role in the Magnolia neighborhood and includes a brand new in-house private apartment (with a private entrance) offered as part of this position.
Responsibilities:
-Assisting with Daily Activities:
Help with dressing, bathing, grooming, and toileting as needed.
Help with mobility as required.
Ensure their safety at all times, especially in the case of the husband’s tendency to wander around the house.
-Meal Preparation:
Prepare and serve meals according to their preferences and restrictions.
Medication Management:
Help track and administer medications.
-Companionship:
Engage in meaningful interactions as desired by the couple but respect their desire for privacy and alone time, being available when needed.
-Household Duties:
Maintain a clean and organized living environment.
Perform light housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning and laundry.
-Transportation:
Drive the couple to medical appointments as necessary and ensure their safety during transportation.
-Safety and Security:
Monitor the wandering tendencies of the husband, implementing necessary safety measures.
Assist the wife with mobility as required.
-Communication:
Keep family members informed about any changes in their condition or requirements.
Maintain clear and open communication with the family regarding any concerns or updates.
-Requirements:
Proven experience as a caregiver for the elderly, preferably in an assisted living environment.
Knowledge of dementia care and patience in dealing with individuals with cognitive impairments.
Compassionate and empathetic with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to adapt to the changing needs of elderly individuals.
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
A willingness to run errands and provide transportation as needed.
Basic first aid and CPR certification is a plus.
References from previous caregiving roles.
-Working Hours:
This is a full-time, live-in position with the requirement to be available overnight as necessary (e.g. in case of emergency). Weekly time off will be scheduled in coordination with a day shift caregiver.
