Loving female caregivers needed to help our 96-year-old mother age in place in her own home in Grayland, WA. Applicant must have previous caregiving experience and be able to assist with personal hygiene and provide physical assistance as necessary. Family will provide training for the position and is always available for support.
Note: Due to client's age, she spends much of each day in bed, although the goal is that she always gets up to her chair. Responsibilities include monitoring her for safety, protecting her from falls, providing companionship, oversight of medications, light meal prep and light housekeeping, communicating regularly with family and other caregivers on client's condition and any changes in status. Family provides much of the personal care required.
Client loves animals and has one cat. She enjoys wearing jewelry, watching TV, visiting with caregivers and looking outside at her garden. Her physical abilities and mentation fluctuate depending on the day, but she is usually oriented and takes part in her own care with encouragement and assistance as needed. She is generally 'standby assist' with cane, usually sleeps through the night and usually able to get up to the bathroom on her own. She has memory issues, so repetition is to be expected.
Caregivers or family live in the home 7 days per week. Caregiver shifts are normally 24 hours long, though there is some flexibility. A total of three to four 24-hour shifts are needed currently. One 24-hour shift pays $300. These shifts may be filled by one or more caregivers. Most 24-hour shifts provide the caregiver with some personal time for reading, studying, watching TV, etc, while using a camera to monitor client when in another room. If a short shift is needed, the wage is $20/hour.
