General Description:
As the Human Resources Specialist, you’ll serve as a key point of contact for the department, helping to create a welcoming and professional environment. You’ll be responsible for managing the student employment process, including job postings, data entry, and ensuring compliance with relevant labor laws and USCIS regulations. This role involves collaborating with various campus departments, supervising student workers, coordinating necessary documentation, and providing training and support. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and organizational skills are essential for success in this data entry-heavy role. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
-Establish and maintain a welcoming and professional environment for Human Resources’ internal and external customers.
-Serve as a key point of contact for Human Resources, responding to general inquiries and requests, including those related to student employment.
-Manage the student employment process.
-Communicate with on-campus employers about the process for posting positions and hiring students using the Opportunities Board in Symplicity; troubleshoot any job posting or hiring issues.
-Responsible for data entry of all student employment hires. Supervise student workers who may assist in the input of detailed data entry.
-Communicate with payroll to ensure timely and resolve data entry errors.
-Communicate with the Office of Financial Services on student eligibility and awards.
-Coordinate the collection of W-4 and I-9 documentation; conduct student employee background and motor vehicle record checks.
-Attend events throughout the year to provide information on student employment.
-Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and employer information.
-Conduct individual and group training.
-Update and maintain the Student Employment website.
-Provide support for the staff employment process as needed.
-May assist other HR areas such as event planning, benefit and/or leave administration.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

-Strong organizational and planning skills.
-Proficient with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software applications.
-Knowledge of ensuring compliance with US labor laws and USCIS employment regulations.
-Comfort with public speaking and leading trainings.
Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree OR 2 years of job-related experience. Education may substitute for some experience.
-High school diploma or GED.
-Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree.
-Data entry experience.
-Familiarity with and/or experience in higher education.
-Coursework or previous experience in Human Resources.
