Position:
This position description outlines the duties and responsibilities of the Custodial & Maintenance Assistant at Bainbridge Performing Arts. This is a part-time hourly paid position (approximately 20 hours per week) at a compensation rate of $28/hr.

Scope and Structure of Bainbridge Performing Arts:
BPA incorporates several main areas of operation, including Mainstage productions, BPA Theatre School, and Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra. In addition, BPA serves as a community space, with additional programming and partnerships that help us achieve our mission through robust community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Custodial & Maintenance Assistant:
The Custodial & Maintenance Assistant helps maintain a clean, welcoming, and well-functioning environment for staff, artists, volunteers, and patrons. This hands-on role supports day-to-day building care, light maintenance, and occasional event support, ensuring BPA remains a safe and inspiring place for community activity.
Reporting Relationship:
The Custodial & Maintenance Assistant reports to the Technical Director. They will also work closely with the Operations Director, Front of House Manager and other staff as needed.
Scope, Authority, and Expectations:
Cleaning and Upkeep
● Sweep, mop, vacuum, clean, sanitize and tidy all public and backstage spaces (lobby, theatre, studio, offices, dressing rooms, restrooms, etc)
● Empty trash and recycling throughout the building
● Clean and sanitize restrooms regularly and as needed before/after events
● Maintain cleanliness of exterior walkways and entry areas
● Assist with seasonal deep-cleaning projects
● Help maintain a safe and organized janitorial/storage area
Restocking & Supplies
● Monitor and restock paper products, cleaning supplies, and other facility-related items
● Notify Front of House Manager when supplies are low or when special orders are needed
Light Maintenance
● Perform basic building maintenance and repairs (changing lightbulbs, tightening hardware, unclogging drains, paint touch up, etc.)
● Report and document any facility damage or larger maintenance concerns promptly
● Occasionally assist with upkeep of building exterior and landscaping as needed (e.g. spreading de-icing salt, sweeping walkways, etc)
● Perform monthly fire extinguisher checks
Event and Production Support
● Occasionally assist staff with setup/breakdown of event equipment (e.g. tables, chairs)
● Occasionally provide light backstage or technical support as needed (training provided)
● Ensure rehearsal and performance spaces are clean, safe, and ready for use when needed
General
● Open and close the facility on occasion, following safety protocols
● Occasionally interface with vendors, repair techs, or volunteers assisting with facility projects ensuring all interactions are consistent with the values of BPA
● Work collaboratively with the rest of the BPA staff team to maintain an awareness of organizational activity and priorities
Qualifications:
● Previous experience in janitorial, facility, or maintenance work preferred
● Ability to work independently and follow a routine checklist
● Dependable and proactive, with good communication skills
● Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the shift
● Comfort working in a performing arts environment and around technical equipment
● A background check is required for employment
