Custodian Needed

Responsibilities: The Church Custodian will routinely clean the building interior including furnishings of the church and educational buildings, remove garbage/recycling/compost, replace supplies in restrooms, setting up/taking down and arranging furniture in customary or requested order, caring for custodial equipment and supplies, replacing light bulbs, and reporting damage. The Custodian will maintain the exterior walkways, patio, and parking lot in a safe and clean condition, clean up trash and broken glass and report hazardous conditions or damage. The Custodian will also do additional tasks of a similar nature which are generally and reasonably done by Custodians, including, but not limited to, washing windows, stripping and waxing vinyl floors. All cleaning supplies and equipment will be provided for the Custodian.

Work Schedule:The church must be cleaned twice a week at the end of the week after our renter leaves and after Sunday worship in preparation for the new week. There is some flexibility in day and time of work. 3 hours Friday (this can be Friday afternoon or evening or anytime Saturday) and 3 hours Sunday afternoon or evening (following worship and church events). May vary slightly depending on building use. You will receive pay for 3 hours for each day which you work and complete all required tasks to our satisfaction. We anticipate that you will always work three hours per shift.

Qualifications: highly organized, able to prioritize tasks and manage time; able to follow a task related schedule; able to work independently with minimal supervision; detail oriented and able to maintain a high level of cleanliness; highly motivated; able to take and follow directions; able to stand and walk for long periods of time, to bend and reach, lift, pull, and push objects weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally necessary to climb a ladder. Must be able to communicate in English.

The Church pays payroll taxes including the employer portion of Social Security/Medicare as well as Washington State Workers Compensation and Paid Family and Medical Leave premium on behalf of our employees. The WA Cares long-term insurance premium is deducted from employees’ pay. Churches are exempt from federal and state unemployment; thus, our employees are not eligible for unemployment compensation.

There will be a 90-day probationary/training period. During this period either party may terminate this employment for any reason.
