Compensation: $28 per hour

Schedule Requirements: The standard shift is from 6pm – 3:30am although the schedule may vary due to convention center schedules.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Custodial Services Lead at Meydenbauer Center is responsible for supervising and leading the daily activity of the Custodial Services work team. Responsibilities of this position include ensuring departmental qualitative standards are maintained and that labor and material resources are managed efficiently. This position requires a large amount of hands-on work which includes directing the daily custodial services activity, providing direction and oversight to the custodial team, ensuring that cleaning supplies and equipment are used in a safe and efficient manner, and ensures that daily work plan is completed, and ensuring the work meets or exceeds quality standards.

Duties are routine but necessitate some degree of independent judgment as to planning and prioritization. A small portion of time is allotted to organizing and prioritizing tasks and a majority of time is dedicated to directing and participating with the on-the-floor activity of the work group. As part of supervising the staff, this position must lead by example by completing on-the-floor cleaning activities with the staff.

The Lead position ensures a positive and cooperative work environment, recognizes safety rule infractions, and takes immediate action to correct. He/she administers minor attendance and performance disciplinary action, if necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervises, directs and plans shift work activities of custodial staff involved in the nightly cleaning of the building.

Inspects ongoing work activities of staff to monitor task accomplishments and work standard achievements. Ensures timely completion of activities and reassigns staff as necessary.

Leads and participates in the work of the Custodial Services Workers including determining work procedures, assigning duties, training, assisting in solving work problems, enforcing facility regulations and policies and promoting work efficiency.

Reviews event and nonevent-related documentation and determines daily staffing assignments.

Estimates staff and equipment needs for activities; maintains proper inventory of supplies.

Manages the carpet maintenance program and ensures that cleaning schedules are maintained, and approved procedures are followed.

Monitors the quality and quantity of the work of team members by reviewing work progress to determine if schedules are being met. Identifies problems in the quantity and quality of work and takes prompt and effective corrective action.

Identifies better methods for effectively meeting service demands through streamlining and improving work methods. Tests these possible improvements and assures their efficiency and effectiveness.

Develops responsibility and teamwork among team members in the accomplishments of work tasks by assuring each employee understands her/his work responsibilities, delegating responsibility and authority to employees who can effectively fulfill them, and encouraging communication with and amongst the team.

Motivates team members by providing recognition and a sense of achievement when a job is well done, and helps employees learn new skills to enable them to feel a sense of personal growth and advancement.

Provides guidance and instruction to team members in the best way to accomplish tasks.

Trains team members on proper cleaning procedures and equipment operation, new tasks, monitors performance and directly participates in work evaluations.

Ensures a positive and cooperative work environment, recognizes safety rule infractions and takes immediate action to correct.

Administers minor attendance and performance disciplinary action in coordination with the Custodial & Event Operations Manager.

Completes necessary departmental documentation.

Objectively and constructively evaluates the performance of team members promptly advising them on their performance and clearly defines areas of improvement. Reports ongoing strengths and areas of opportunity to the Custodial & Event Operations Manager.

Sweeps, dusts, vacuums and wet mops floors.

Cleans, waxes, and polishes floors. Operates mechanical cleaners, polishers or other floor care equipment.

Works safely with a variety of chemicals.

Cleans restroom walls, floors, titles, fixtures, and replenishes restroom supplies as needed.

Assists in gum removal and squeegeeing/mopping up liquids, drinks spills in area.

Removes recyclable material and garbage from receptacles and keeps receptacles clean and odor-free.

Cleans debris and waste matter from clogged drains and toilets.

Dusts and cleans the wall air intakes and outlets, light fixtures, sills and ledges.

Vacuums and steam cleans carpets.

Removes fingerprints and cleans partition glass and doors.

Assists in providing courteous directions to guests, vendor or exhibitor vehicles during changeovers.

Organizes and maintains inventories of all paper and cleaning supplies.

Maintains well stocked, neat and orderly storage and equipment areas.

Works safely with a variety of chemicals.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Three years or more of experience in facility operations and custodial care.

Minimum of two years supervisory experience.

Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in custodial operations within a hospitality environment.

Experience in carpet cleaning and floor care.

Knowledge in the safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES

None required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position directs the shift work of up to three employees in the Custodial Services department and may also direct the work of a number of temporary workers depending on business need.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works throughout the building and is frequently exposed to an assortment of cleaning chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, and occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. This position also performs work in an office setting, utilizing standard office equipment including personal computer and associated software and peripherals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

POSITION TYPE / WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time position. Shifts are scheduled based on event activity and will occur mostly on the “third shift” between the hours of 6pm and 2:30am. On average, this position will work 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime. Shifts often include weekends and can include holidays.
