About the Job

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Equipment Operator to join our construction team. As an Equipment Operator, you will play a vital role in our projects, operating and maintaining skid steers and excavators to facilitate various construction tasks efficiently and safely. You will be responsible for maneuvering heavy machinery to perform tasks such as excavation, grading, site preparation, and material handling. Your expertise and attention to detail will ensure the successful completion of residential construction projects, contributing to the growth and reputation of our company. This person must be a team player, highly motivated and have a willingness to adapt to changes that may arise. Able to work overtime when needed.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Operate and maintain skid steers and excavators to perform a wide range of residential construction tasks, including digging, trenching, backfilling, grading, and material handling. Must be comfortable performing those tasks on slopes.

2. Safely and skillfully operate the equipment in compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.

3. Conduct pre-operation inspections of machinery to ensure they are in proper working condition; report any mechanical issues or malfunctions promptly.

4. Follow project plans and blueprints to accurately execute excavation and grading tasks, adhering to grade specifications and construction tolerances.

5. Collaborate with the construction team to ensure seamless coordination and execution of tasks, adapting to changing project requirements as needed.

6. Safely load and transport materials using the equipment to designated locations on-site.

7. Adhere to established schedules and deadlines, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.

8. Assist with general construction duties when not operating equipment, such as assisting with general carpentry tasks.

9. Identify potential hazards or risks on the job site and take necessary precautions to prevent accidents or injuries.

10. Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure equipment is securely stored at the end of each workday.

11. Attend safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on safety protocols and equipment operation best practices.

12. Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality, safety, and professionalism in all aspects of the job.

Qualifications

1. 5 years of proven experience as an equipment operator, specifically with skid steers and excavators, in a residential construction environment.

2. Knowledge of construction site safety practices and ability to follow safety guidelines diligently.

3. Familiarity with reading and interpreting construction plans and blueprints.

4. Physical strength and stamina to withstand long hours of operating heavy machinery in varying weather conditions.

5. Excellent hand-eye coordination and depth perception to maneuver equipment with precision.

6. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues on the equipment.

7. Effective communication skills to coordinate with the construction team and respond to instructions promptly.

8. Ability to work independently or as part of a team, taking initiative and demonstrating a strong work ethic.

9. Flexibility to adapt to changing project demands and work schedules.

10. Ability and willingness to travel locally (within Mason, Thurston, and Kitsap Counties)

11. Valid driver’s license

12. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:

a. Lifting up to 40 lbs. unassisted

b. Seeing, hearing, and speaking

c. Bending, standing, climbing, stooping, and walking

13. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
