The Leif Erikson Building Association is seeking a dedicated and reliable Live-In Caretaker to oversee the maintenance, security, and event support for our building. This role requires a compassionate individual who can ensure the smooth operation of the facility while fostering a welcoming environment for members and guests.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Building Maintenance:
Perform regular inspections of the premises to identify and address maintenance issues.
Conduct minor repairs, such as fixing broken locks, replacing light bulbs, and basic plumbing.
Ensure the cleanliness of the building by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
Maintain outdoor areas, including gardens and parking lots, pruning shrubs, and removing debris.
2. Security:
Responsible for the safety & security of the building and properties.
Monitor the building’s security systems, including alarms and CCTV cameras.
Respond to alarms and investigate potential security threats.
Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked at the end of each day.
3. Event Support:
Must remain in the building while occupied by people renting the hall.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of events, including arranging furniture and equipment.
Provide support during events, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
All lights, faucets and equipment such as stoves, coffee machines, dishwashers, etc. must be inspected after the renters have left the building.
Coordinate with event organizers to meet their specific needs.
4. Member and Guest Relations:
Greet and assist members and guests, providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Address any inquiries or concerns promptly and professionally.
5. General Duties:
Manage waste disposal and recycling activities.
Main hall swept & spot mopped as needed after each use.
Bathrooms checked daily, cleaned and sanitized after use by groups.
Kitchen – clean floor after each use, or as needed.
Maintain sufficient supplies to assure that all paper and soap dispensers are full.
The following to be cleaned on a regular schedule:
1. Vacuum hallways, office, Norna & Kaffestua rooms & bathrooms.
2. Clean & mop back stairways & basement as needed.
3. Sweep garage & outside area as needed.
4. Place garbage & recycle in dumpster.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Report any major maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, or a related field.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, English required.
Ability to perform physical tasks and handle minor repairs.
Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
