Job Summary
The Warehouse Swing Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing warehouse operations during the swing shift (typically mid-afternoon to late evening). This role ensures that processes remain seamless between day and night shifts, maintaining inventory accuracy, productivity, and a safe work environment. As a crucial bridge between shifts, the Swing Shift Lead effectively communicates shift activities and any critical information, making sure the evening operations run smoothly and set up the night shift for success.
Key Responsibilities
Shift Supervision: Lead and manage warehouse associates during the swing shift, overseeing order picking, packing, shipping, receiving, and other key tasks to maintain productivity and quality standards.
Transition Management: Coordinate with warehouse manager to ensure a smooth handover between shifts, effectively communicating progress on tasks, outstanding orders, and any issues.
Task Assignment: Assign daily tasks and adjust workflows based on demand, taking into account resources needed to fulfill evening workloads.
Quality Assurance: Conduct and oversee quality checks to ensure that all orders processed during the shift meet company and customer standards.
Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols and conducting safety inspections, especially during transitions between shifts.
Training and Development: Train new hires on warehouse procedures and mentor team members to continuously improve performance, with a focus on shift-specific challenges.
Performance Monitoring: Track shift metrics, including productivity, accuracy, and safety incidents, and report to warehouse management with insights for improvement.
Continuous Improvement: Work with management and other shift leads to identify areas for process improvement and contribute to overall operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience in a warehouse role, preferably with previous experience as a shift lead or supervisor.
Skills:
Strong organizational and multitasking skills, particularly effective in a warehouse work environment
Excellent communication and team-building skills
Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to motivate and supervise a team to achieve high performance under tight timelines
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand and walk for extended periods, and operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts.
Working Conditions
Schedule: Swing shift, generally mid-afternoon to late evening, with potential for occasional weekends or holidays.
Environment: Warehouse setting with exposure to different temperatures and safety hazards typical of a warehouse environment.
