Job Summary:

The Student Engagement Manager for Student Activities Board & District Events has primary responsibility over the District Activities Board structures including all student-led events, activities and programs for Offices of Student Life at Puyallup & Fort Steilacoom. This position will manage, supervise, train a team of student leaders on each campus, while developing innovative programs that engage that promote student engagement and access to campus resources. These programs include but are not limited to Activities Board and District Events, student organizations, affinity programs, and other college activities. This position also is responsible for the retention efforts in coordination with Student Engagement Services Division with an emphasis on the academic achievement and degree completion of our underrepresented and marginalized student populations: BIPOC, LGBTQ+, first-generation, students with disabilities, veterans, single parents, and under-resourced students. The Student Engagement Manager will coordinate district-wide student engagement programs that are inclusive, accessible, and empowering for all students to lead with purpose and in excellence. This position reports to the District Directors of Student Life & Engagement for both Fort Steilacoom & Puyallup campuses.

This role is vital to ensuring positive collaboration and comprehensive communication with internal & external partners to the District Offices of Student Life. This manager will work in partnership with the team of Student Life Managers, who also oversee the Clubs & Organizations and Student Media programs. As directed, this manager will assist the Student Life Directors with the daily operations of the district offices, which includes developing student onboarding, evaluating program quality, and creating social justice leadership opportunities for the student body. This manager is responsible for the management of all activities board events for the district, processes, guidelines and forms. This manager serves as the lead advisor for the Activities Board and point of contact for internal partners, external guests, and related committee work. In addition, this role will work directly with the District Administrative Assistant and Program Coordinator to support room reservation requests, student hiring, student-leader supervision, purchasing and budget management of the district activities board.

This position joins a dynamic team that provides holistic and culturally sustainable services with a specialized focus for students who are historically marginalized and disenfranchised and all students.

Essential Functions

The Student Engagement Manager will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Activities Board & Event Management

Create a campus atmosphere for all students to feel affirmed, empowered and valued by ensuring that Student Life initiatives and campus programming are inclusive to the experiences of students and the college community.

Assist the Directors by coordinating all aspects of the Activities Board programming by conducting strategic planning, establishing procedures to meet program outcomes, and supervising daily management of student activities board.

Supervise, train, and delegate tasks to student leaders within the Activities Board to achieve quarterly program objectives, innovate student engagement strategies, and support other department staff across the Student Engagement Services Division.

Evaluate on and off-campus activities by conducting quarterly assessments of student satisfaction, risk, accessibility, and program quality for continuous improvement of all department programming.

Attend annual professional development and student engagement opportunities such as the National Association for Campus Activities Conference (NACA), Students of Color Conference, and support the supervision of Student Life events (including evening and weekend activities).

Apply knowledge of student development, and leadership theories to advise the student activities board on issues regarding personal wellness, identity development, culturally responsive engagement, and Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI).

Use best practices for student engagement and event management to guide the training of all student leaders in planning, managing, and evaluating events such as lectures, workshops, entertainment performances, recreational sports, cultural activities, and health and wellness programs.

Research and develop on-campus resources for topics like personal wellness, financial literacy, domestic violence, and academic support by reaching out to campus partners, local agencies, non-profit organizations, and small businesses.

Collaborate with campus directors to negotiate performance contracts, prepare facilities requests, coordinate marketing, and other event planning tasks to support student leaders, campus partners, and college guests.

Coordinate district event planning, marketing initiatives, and social media platforms to ensure activities are effectively promoted and aligned with the needs and interests of students.

Develop collaborative relationships with campus administrators, faculty and other student services staff who may assist with student programs and events.

Collaborate with the Student Engagement Services division programs by attending monthly district meetings and serving as a liaison for district wide events, to ensure campus programs are supported

Provide consultation and recommendations to the Directors regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative practices, policies, and programming that help students populations develop the skills needed to succeed in college, the workplace and in society.

Administrative Supports

Provide systematic communication with students through multiple methods, including district-approved technology.

Manage the daily functions of the student leaders in support of general office duties as directed.

Manage and assist district staff with student leader recruitment, student work schedules, student academic progress, and student academic transcripts to monitor retention of student leaders.

Manage ticket sales and collection of funds for Student Life sponsored events.

Budget Management

Manages the activities board and events, and affinity/cultural programs purchase requests

Manage monthly reports for own P-Card, travel, and finance reconciliations

Assist with the monitor of S&A approved budget for Activities Board and the development of annual S&A budget

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, human services, or related field OR equivalent education/experience.

Required Experience:

Required two years comparable experience working with students of diverse backgrounds, preferably with community college students.

Experience working in diverse communities from marginalized and disenfranchised backgrounds such as first generation, low income, students with a disability, and students from diverse ethnic/cultural background.

Experience with student program design, planning events/activities, personnel supervision, evaluation in a post-secondary setting desired.

Special Requirements and/or Conditions of Employment

Must have reliable transportation.

Ability to travel locally and out of state to attend training and events, including infrequent overnight travel.

Must have a valid Washington State Driver's License.

Must pass driver's training/certification for the use of the Pierce College Vans.

Ability & Willingness: Willing to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times. Willing and able to sit for 4 or more hours per day. Willing to travel, using own vehicle.
