Sheet Metal Technician

Position summary:

Operate CNC press brake and laser cutting equipment, in both a prototyping and production capacity. Conduct “job shop” sheet metal work to fulfill new or existing production orders, on a recurring and repeat basis, according to required delivery schedules.

In addition to production work, conduct R&D sheet metal work, in the form of short run/one-off projects to prototype new designs as they are created, and provide design input and feedback as applicable to improve and help create new designs.

Manage the production schedule and keep a running priority of existing and upcoming work to ensure deadlines are met, for both R&D and production jobs.

Employee is expected to carry a manufacturing project from raw material, through production, to packaging and prep for shipping. Ideal applicant has experience in welding, as well as other manufacturing processes like fastener installation and using hand/power tools, although these abilities can be trained on the job to a certain extent.

Primary materials to be used are mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum, with potential to use additional materials as required.

Employee may be needed to deliver parts directly to clients, generally located in the greater Seattle area.

Nice-to-have:

Experience with a modern Amada control interface

Advanced fabrication techniques (skilled in MIG/TIG welding, etc.)

Essential Responsibilities:

Run CNC sheet metal equipment: laser cutting and brake forming (and manual machines as applicable) in production and prototyping capacities

Run multiple machines simultaneously as required, and/or bounce back and forth between machines

Perform QC and dimensional verification to ensure standards are met and maintained

Perform daily and periodic maintenance on machines (fluid levels, chip clearing, etc.)

Be accountable and on time; maintain clean and orderly workspace

Work as a team member and maintain a scrutinous eye for ways that a part or a project could be improved (this role is not simply button pushing or "turn off your brain" production)

In downtime between projects, contribute to the R&D/production effort through collaborative problem solving with other team members, and assist with other projects

Education and Experience:

Trade school for sheet metal manufacturing, or equivalent experience

Proficiency in basic math required for programming and operation of machines

Examples of personal projects and/or creative exploration and self-education are preferred

Metal fabrication and general shop work experience preferred

Bonus points if applicants are already familiar with Laguna laser cutters and Amada press brakes

Lift or move between 10-50 lbs regularly

Operate small forklift or pallet jack

Compensation/benefits:

Flexible work schedule including opportunities for occasional remote work

After-hours access to the R&D Shop for personal projects

Comprehensive benefits program including subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees

Eligible for Overtime Pay

Company 401(k) plan

14 days of PTO (7 sick days and 7 vacation days)
