Forest and Fish Specialist I

Job Summary:

The Forest and Fish Specialist I assists with implementation of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe’s (PGST) Forest and Fish program, including screening and evaluating Forest Practices Applications (FPAs), Hydraulics Project Approval (HPA), Forest Practice related State Environmental Protection Act (SEPA) applications, and local permits. The Forest and Fish Technician participates in interdisciplinary team field visits and provides technical assistance to WA State Dept. of Natural Resources and forest landowners. The position evaluates proposals for timber harvest, forest roads, stream crossings, riparian and wetland management, reforestation, invasive species control, and other forest practice activities. The Forest and Fish Technician surveys streams and wetlands, identifies threatened/endangered species habitats, and coordinates with the Tribe’s Cultural Resources Department. The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, originally known as the Nux Sklai Yem or The Strong People, are descendants of the Salish peoples with ancestral ties to the Kitsap Peninsula that date back at least 1,000 years.
