Campus Safety Officer:

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for providing public safety and security for the College community by protecting college property, buildings, grounds, equipment and other assets, located on campus grounds, owned or leased property. The Campus Safety Officer receives and processes reports, obtains statements and conducts initial inspections of incidents, accidents, and complaints.

Campus Safety Officers must be able to positively interact with a diverse campus community and have a service focus. Campus Safety Officers are required to respond to emergency and crisis situations within the capabilities and limits of the Department’s authority. Campus Safety Officers are designated as “Essential Personnel” and are required to report to work during emergencies. This position requires regular and consistent attendance.

General Patrol Duties:

Patrol on foot or in patrol vehicles to enforce institution laws and policies.

Inspect buildings and grounds for prowlers, damage, vandalism, or other crimes.

Inspect doors and gates to ensure campus security.

Direct and regulate traffic and parking.

Investigate accidents and crimes, administer first aid, issue citations for violations, gather evidence, locate witnesses, and appear in court as required.

Operate communications equipment, answer telephone inquiries, take reports of incidents, inspect and operate alarms, access control, and video surveillance systems.

Serve as Clery Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.

Follow Pierce College District policies and procedures, Department policy and State law.

Receive and process lost and found property.

Control facility access; identify property damage, equipment malfunctions, utility failures, or any unusual, dangerous, or suspicious situation.

Respond to emergencies, accidents, altercations, alarms, or disturbances following emergency response procedures; assist with evacuations, crowd/traffic control, and de-escalating volatile situations.

Assist the campus community by providing services such as vehicle unlocks, escorts, battery jumps, and building unlocks.

Issue parking permits, access cards, and keys as directed.

Report incidents to law enforcement and secure areas of interest until authorities arrive; assist law enforcement personnel upon request.

Maintain regular and consistent attendance.

Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities:

Receive, initiate, process and write reports of incidents, accidents, and complaints; obtain statements, and conduct preliminary investigations using standard formats and processes utilizing Report Exec as applicable.

Maintain daily officer shift logs utilizing Report Exec.

Lead Duties:

Lead, train, coach, mentor, and check the work of hourly officers and interns.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

GED or High School Diploma.

Required Experience

Six month's experience in public safety, law enforcement, or security OR equivalent combination of experience and education.

Special Requirements:

A valid Washington driver’s license (at the time of hire).

Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and first aid certifications within 120 days of employment.

Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.

Ability to successfully complete a driver’s record check.

Ability to perform the physical and mental demands of the position.

Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) classified, overtime-eligible position with Pierce College District. This position is permanent after serving a 6-month probationary period. The primary work location will be at Pierce College Puyallup campus. Occasional travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings, weekend work, and occasional travel as required. This position may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.

Salary & Benefits:

The starting salary range of this position is $4,282.00 a month, dependent upon qualifications, with annual periodic increments up to $5,214.00. However, your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. A comprehensive health care benefits package for you and your dependents includes medical, dental, and vision insurance. Physical Work Environment:

This position is required to work indoors and outdoors during inclement and extreme weather conditions. Additionally, this position patrols the campus on foot or in a Pierce College patrol vehicle. The incumbent will respond to incidents involving accidents, injuries, altercations, and various hazardous situations (i.e., workplace violence, HAZMAT,

natural disasters). Safety requirements include use of personal protective equipment (PPE),

First Aid, CPR, AED certification, RCW, and WAC compliance.
