Job Summary
Independently manufacture and assemble interior components for boats, including seats, cushions, and protective covers. Work to create or use existing patters to connect the pieces needed for finished projects.
Select appropriate materials, measure, cut, and sew fabrics and upholstery ensuring precision and adherence to design specifications. Utilize a variety of power tools hand tools, and industrial sewing machines to prepare and assemble materials.
Proficiency with industrial sewing machines and fabric cutting tools. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints. Excellent communication sills and ability to mentor junior staff. Knowledge of safety procedures and industry standards.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma - or the equivalent (for example, GED)
2 or more years sewing and patterning a variety of materials.
Knowledge of various sewing techniques, and sewing machines.
Work Setting - The work setting is in a well lit, clean 2,000 square foot facility that is clean, well maintained and customer facing. The beautiful Port of Everett Marina is in full sight and air flow, especially in the good weather, makes it a joy and pleasure to be onsight.
Work Attire - Dress requirements of this job is business casual.
Primary Job Duties
Place spools of thread, cord, or other materials on spindles, insert bobbins, and thread ends through machine guides and components. Position items under needles, using marks on machines, clamps, templates, or cloth as guides.
Match cloth pieces in correct sequences prior to sewing them, and verify that dye lots and patterns match.
Guide garments or garment parts under machine needles and presser feet to sew parts together.
Start and operate or tend machines, such as single or double needle serging and flat-bed felling machines, to automatically join, reinforce, or decorate material or articles.
Record quantities of materials processed.
Select supplies such as fasteners and thread, according to job requirements.
Mount attachments, such as needles, cutting blades, or pattern plates, and adjust machine guides according to specifications.
Cut excess material or thread from finished products.
Fold or stretch edges or lengths of items while sewing to facilitate forming specified sections.
Perform equipment maintenance tasks such as replacing needles, sanding rough areas of needles, or cleaning and oiling sewing machines.
Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunctions.
Examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to standards, using rulers.
