Heavy Equipment Operator/Site Lead

We are seeking a highly experienced and versatile Heavy Equipment Operator to serve as a Site Lead on our underground civil construction and earthwork projects. The ideal candidate is a proactive, all-in-one professional who can operate a variety of heavy machinery and take ownership of projects from start to finish. This is not a standard operator position; the role requires a combination of technical skill, on-site management, and a strong work ethic. You will be responsible for operating machinery, performing "ground work" and pipe installation, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.

Pay & Benefits

Pay Rate: $35 - $45 per hour, based on experience and role (e.g., Foreman, Site Manager, Heavy Equipment Operator, or new-to-the-trade).

Paid Holidays: Six paid holidays annually.

Paid Time Off (PTO): Five days of PTO awarded after one year of employment.

Health Coverage: Comprehensive medical and dental insurance with 100% of the premiums covered by the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Heavy Equipment Operation:

Expertly and safely operate multiple types of heavy equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and dump trucks.

Perform trenching, grading, site preparation, and earth moving for new and existing projects.

Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of all equipment to ensure safe and reliable performance.

Site Management & Project Ownership:

Manage and execute small to mid-grade underground civil projects independently.

Act as the primary on-site lead, overseeing all aspects of the job.

Perform crucial "ground work" tasks, including pipe laying, utility installation, and setting up job sites.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.

Ensure all project work meets local, state, and federal regulations.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Logistics & Teamwork:

Possess a valid CDL to operate and transport materials and equipment as needed. (preferred)

Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, and subcontractors.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of extensive, verifiable experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the underground civil construction and earthwork industry. Candidates with a proven track record of managing their own projects will be given preference.

Versatility: Demonstrated ability to perform both equipment operation and "ground work" (e.g., pipe laying, utility installation). This is a critical requirement for the role.

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is mandatory.

Relevant equipment operator certifications (e.g., NCCCO) are a plus.

Background Check: Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check to gain access to sensitive job sites, including federal, military, and private contractor locations.

Work Ethic: A strong, consistent work ethic with a history of long-term employment. This is a stable position, and we are looking for someone who is not deterred by the seasonal nature of the Washington State construction market.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with a variety of pipe materials (e.g., PVC, concrete, ductile iron).

Knowledge of construction plans, blueprints, and project specifications.

Familiarity with the specific challenges of the Washington State construction market.
