Background
Kirkland Sailing Club is a US SAILING School and Club based in Kirkland WA with 20 boats located in Kirkland and Seattle marinas.
Role
The Club is seeking a part-time employee to perform maintenance tasks on the fleet.
Skills Required
Candidates should be highly experienced boaters with an aptitude for fixing problems and recognizing the sometimes unique methods used in marine repair and maintenance. Accustomed to performing a variety of tasks required to keep recreational boats operational. Although experience with sailing boats is not required, it is preferred.
Applicants should be able to meet and perform the physical requirements to work effectively in a waterfront environment which is typical of this position. This role does require the lifting of heavy items on and off boats afloat, such as outboard motors up to 60lbs. Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling along with regular exposure to outside weather conditions, paints and chemicals used as standard in the industry.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Servicing and repair of outboard motors, diesel and gasoline inboard motors.
Sanding and painting
Fiberglass and gelcoat repairs
Moving boats between locations (no passengers for hire)
Assisting stepping/ unstepping masts
Rigging checks and maintenance
Pressure washing, hull cleaning
Replacing broken parts
Condition checking/ inventory
Removing and installing sails
Maintains and repairs systems for lighting, plumbing, electrical and marine electronics
Licenses and Special Requirements
Valid clean driver’s license
Hours
Mostly Weekdays. Hours are flexible based on candidates availability- typically 2x half-days per week all year round with a possibility to increase hours and/ or responsibilities beyond that.
Compensation
$25/ hour + club privileges. Mileage paid for travel between Kirkland and Seattle locations.
