School Facilities Maintenance Technician

University Prep (UPrep) is seeking a talented, engaging, and compassionate Facilities Maintenance Technician to work the afternoon/evening shift. Our school is growing in enrollment and our campus has expanded with the opening of a new 40,000 square foot building, increasing our facility footprint by 40%. Job Summary:

Under general supervision, supports the Director of Facilities and PM Facilities Maintenance Supervisor with a variety of duties during the afternoon/evening shift (M-F, generally 2PM to 10PM), including campus maintenance as assigned, monitoring of campus activity during after-hours including special events and athletic programs etc., outdoor landscaping, security and closing all school buildings, and attending to emergency situations and requests.

Specific Responsibilities:

- Assists with after-school campus security including, but not limited to, events supervision and lock up

- Works with all interested parties and completes all set up and break down of furniture for all campus events

- Performs preventive maintenance tasks as assigned by Director of Facilities or PM Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

- Closing and locking all buildings including windows to ensure a secure environment

- Assists outside vendors when staff assistance is required

- Performs janitorial duties when required

- Completes maintenance as assigned by the Director of Facilities or PM Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

- Maintains the school grounds including lawn maintenance, pruning of trees, and planting bed upkeep

- Works cooperatively with the community all University Prep staff, students, parents including Temple Beth Am and P-Patch communities.

- Runs errands as assigned (tennis court maintenance, storage, disposal, parts & equipment needs etc.

- Engages in his/her own professional development; is a life-long learner who enhances his/her skills, using state-of-the-art technologies to maintain high standards of performance to efficiently and effectively produce work products

- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents

- Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities

- Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

- High School Diploma or GED required

- Two years of experience in facilities maintenance preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Ability to work a primarily afternoon and evening work schedule as needed and be available for the closing of the school. Hours will be assigned by the Director of Facilities, according to the needs or special events held by the school.

- Familiarity with basic electrical and plumbing work

- Familiarity with power tools and ability to make minor repairs to school buildings and equipment

- Ability to operate equipment necessary to maintain landscaping

- Must maintain a neat, professional appearance appropriate in a school environment

- Must have and maintain a current Washington State Driver’s License and applicable Washington State automobile insurance and have an acceptable driving record

- Good verbal and written communication skills

- Flexibility, maturity and a sense of humor

- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all school constituencies

- Ability to maintain confidential information

- Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment, using Office, including Outlook; ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology; experience with school-focused technology is a plus

- Ability to acquire Washington State Flagger certification necessary in official traffic control duties

- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time

- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

- Ability to work up to 40 feet off ground level (ladder, lifts or roof work)

- Some local travel required

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay range is $26.50 to $28.85 per hour based on education and years of experience.
