Thank you for your interest in employment at Little Pilgrims Preschool at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. For the upcoming school year, we seek to fill the following position:

Preschool Assistant of Little Pilgrims Preschool “ 20 Hours per Week/10 Months per Year.

Per hour wage is current Washington State minimum wage.

Job Description for Preschool Assistant

We have been given an awesome responsibility to care for and teach the children of our community. Teaching is a very rewarding and exhausting job! Little Pilgrims Preschool takes pride in employing enthusiastic, reliable and experienced Christian teachers. We expect assistants to possess the following qualifications:

The preschool assistant must have a mature faith in the Triune God and a relationship with Him that God has provided through the work of His Son, Jesus Christ. This faith must be evident in lifestyle, behavior and work habits, especially in dealing with others.

The preschool assistant must be an active member of a Christian Church and agree to teach in accordance with the beliefs, doctrines and values of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

The preschool assistant must obtain a satisfactory TB test, Food Handlers Card, have current First Aid, Infant/Child CPR and Blood Borne certification or the commitment to obtain such within one month of hire.

The preschool assistant will submit to a national criminal background check.

Preference will be given to candidates with an ECE degree or ECE credits in addition to STARS training.

Qualified candidates for this position will have experience assisting or teaching in childcare, preschool or early learning programs serving 3-5 year old children for at least one year.

The candidate must also agree to participate in any training opportunities that may be offered which may lead to additional certifications necessary for the position.

To perform the job successfully, a candidate must be able to perform the following Essential Duties satisfactorily. This list of duties is not all-inclusive, but it illustrates the scope of work.

Provide classroom management, so that the lead teacher can execute curriculum without interruptions.

Able to communicate successfully with lead teacher to ensure classroom runs smoothly and efficiently.

Must be fiscally responsible with supplies (be creative).

Ability to redirect or change curriculum instantly if planned materials are not working (quick thinking).

Able to successfully manage the class to maintain a positive, nurturing and respectful learning environment.

Will be responsible for assisting children with toileting, if necessary.

Execute with efficiency duties assigned by lead teacher (prepping materials for classroom).

Fill-in with confidence for lead teacher if absent.

Be prepared for interacting with children in the indoor and outdoor classroom (playground-appropriate clothing for weather).

Keep all children in your care safe and comfortable.

Able to communicate successfully with families of children in care of preschool, through attentive listening and actively engaging in conversation.

Take pride in the schools appearance and reputation, both inside and outside the building.

Physical Demands: (The nature of physical effort leading to physical fatigue)

Caring for children can be physically demanding. The preschool assistant may be lifting and carrying children and equipment, thus, required to lift 30 pounds.

The preschool assistant will be spending time sitting on the floor or in child-sized furniture. There will also be considerable movement throughout the classroom and community with children.

The preschool assistant will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility, daily.

The preschool assistant will come into contact with children who are ill and/or contagious and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.

Other Requirements:

Little Pilgrims Preschool will hold regular events outside of regular hours, such as: open houses, family barbeques, curriculum/program nights, graduation, etc. It may be required that the Preschool Assistant attend these events. All required events will be given to the preschool assistant a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the school year.

Schedule:

This is a part-time position running 10 months, beginning the last 2 weeks of August through the 2 weeks following the last day working with children.

Federal holidays will be observed. A 2-week Christmas break and 1 week Spring break will be observed.

Non-emergent time off requests, will be submitted 2 weeks prior to time requested, so that coverage

may be found.

The work week will be 20 hours. Monday-Friday from 8:15am “ 12:15pm.
