Job description
Mangia Catering – Event Cook
About Us:
At Mangia Catering, we’re not just slinging food—we’re orchestrating edible experiences that leave guests raving and licking their plates. Our secret sauce? A blend of scratch-made cuisine, field-tested logistics, and a team that treats every event like a pop-up Michelin moment.
We’re culinary MacGyvers—able to plate a perfect salad on a mountaintop or grill flawless tri-tip in a parking lot. Whether we’re feeding 20 or 2,000, we bring the fire, flavor, and flawless execution. Life’s too short for bland food and boring jobs. Welcome to Mangia.
Position Overview:
As our Culinary Commando, you’ll be the blade-wielding pro turning ingredients into mouthwatering masterpieces. You’ll prep in-house and cook in the wild—think field kitchens, wedding venues, rooftops, riverbanks, corporate lunches in concrete jungles, and the occasional janitor's closet.
This isn’t your typical back-of-house grind. We need someone who thrives on variety, adapts fast, and brings both flavor and fun to the line. You’ll work closely with the Kitchen Manager and other departments to prep, transport, cook, plate, and present food that make memorable experiences.
What We Are Looking For:
Are you a Knife Ninja? Confident with a blade. Fast, clean, and safe—no blood, no bandaids, just brunoise.
Can you be a Line General? Can lead a station or hold down the fort solo. Keeps cool when it’s hot.
Are you a Field Kitchen Fighter? Comfortable cooking at venues, mobile setups, and tight timelines. Roll with it.
Happy Hustler a must: Brings good vibes and lifts the crew—no ego, no drama, all-in.
A Clean Machine? Keeps their station tight and their standards higher than their heat settings.
Are you a Feedback Fanatic? Offers thoughtful ideas and takes coaching like a champ.
A Team-First Flavor Slinger? You jump in on the dish pit, the smoker, or the salad station. Whatever the crew needs.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Prepping ingredients and building recipes to spec
Cooking on- and off-site (sometimes under a tent, sometimes in the weeds)
Supporting plating and presentation at events
Communicating clearly with the Kitchen Manager and fellow colleagues
Executing with pride—even when it’s 90 degrees and someone forgot the tongs
Contributing to a positive, clean, safe, and efficient kitchen
Working a schedule that changes weekly based on events—weekends are busy, weekdays are prep days. We set schedules at least two weeks in advance and aim to give every cook two days off per week (often in a row like Sunday/Monday). Flexibility is key, and reliability is everything.
For example, Tuesday - Thursday are typically 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Friday -Sun: Shifts depending on events, usually 12pm-10pm.
What You’ll Need:
6 months – one year of cooking experience OR culinary school chops
Solid knife skills, food safety etiquette, and general kitchen knowledge
Comfort with changing environments, menus, and timelines
Positive attitude and team-first mentality
Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and the occasional marathon shift
Punctuality and reliability — schedule adherence is paramount. Don’t leave your team in the trench alone.
Flexibility to work variable schedules based on weekly event needs—and the reliability to stick to what’s assigned.
What You’ll Get:
Daily family meal (free meal, most of the time)
Free snack and drink every shift through our employee Culture Club
Paid time off & sick time
Company-paid dental insurance & telehealth
Opportunity to work rad events, meet cool people, and cook delicious food
A kitchen squad that works hard, supports each other, and actually enjoys being there
Team building events
How to Apply:
We don’t need a stiff cover letter—but we do want to know what makes you tick. Submit your resume along with ONE of the following creative prompts (≤400 words):
Option 1: The Menu of Me Give us your appetizer (intro), entrée (skills), and dessert (something fun or surprising).
Option 2: Kitchen Storytime Tell us about a wild day in the kitchen—good, bad, ugly, or hilarious. What did you learn?
Option 3: Your Signature Dish What would you cook to show us who you are? Describe the dish and what it says about you.
We’re ready to cook with you. You bringing the heat?
