We are a family owned organic blueberry farm seeking pickers for our delicious berries as well as workers for our packaging facility. We expect to begin harvest around the week of July 15th and continue to around mid September Picking pay begins at $.60/ pound with a $.10/pound bonus if you work steadily through the end of the season . We adjust the rate upwards as the season goes on, in order to keep the pay consistent as later picking can be slower. It takes a while to get the knack of picking fast but some people get it right away while others may take a week or two to develop speed. We have some skilled pickers that make $300 to $400/day and more. While most new pickers average 100 to 200 pounds to start we have pickers who pick almost 1000 pounds in a day so the potential is there, it is up to you. It's not easy work but it is possible to make some serious over the summer! We have a very good crop this year on maturing bushes so the picking should be good all season.
Pickers must be able to lift 40 pounds and spend the day working outdoors with their hands. We start at 6am and finish around 2:30 pm. The picking will continue through much of September.
Prior farm and harvest experience is not required, but is helpful. Veterans are encouraged to apply. There is no public transportation to this area, so reliable transportation is a must. Usually once the crew settles in there is carpooling available from Spokane. At the conclusion of harvest there are a number of positions that remain available for our more permanent field crew should you choose to stay on with us.
We are also looking for folks to help in our packaging facility. This is a completely different job as it is indoors in an air conditioned facility with the job generally running 4 days a week from 8AM to 4:30. Tasks are mainly feeding the automated packaging machinery, placing packed fruit into cases and stacking, wrapping and labeling pallets of fruit which are then moved by forklift into the cooler. We need at least one forklift operator and 4 or 5 laborers to work the line. This job will start around 7.25 and run to the end of September. packing house work starts at $16.50/hour. The packing facility is refrigerated so one must dress for cold.
