JOB TITLE: INDUSTRIAL PAINTER

DEPARTMENT: PRODUCTION

REPORTS TO: SHOP SUPERVISOR

JOB STATUS: FULL TIME, M-TH 6:30 – 5:00

POSITION SUMMARY:

Sprays surfaces of machines, manufactured products, or working area with protective or decorative material, such as industrial paint, enamel, glaze, gel-coat, or lacquer, using spray gun. Loading and unloading of parts and cleanliness of the paint area. Managing inventory of the paint with forecasting of future materials. Keeping up with lacquer thinner recycling. Forklift and overhead crane knowledge. Self-starter and fast learner. Upholding quality standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Inspects product for defects and blemishes.

2. Cleans grease and dirt from product, using materials, such as lacquer thinner, soap, and water. May use grinder, wire brush, or steel wool to remove rust from metal.

3. Cleans and prepares surface of articles to be painted, using lacquer thinner. May use grinder, wire brush, or steel wool to remove rust from metal.

4. Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated or areas for rework.

5. Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired viscosity, according to specifications, using paddle or mechanical mixer.

6. Replaces screens and filters.

7. Must have good knowledge of appropriate mixing of paint materials and have general knowledge of paint spray guns and hoses and paint pumps. Must have general knowledge of basic paint spraying skills with applying paint.

8. Ensuring full coverage of the paint jobs.

9. Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.

10. Loads and moves materials to paint booth work area, using carts, pallet jacks, forklift, hand truck, or hoist, overhead cranes.

11. Cleanliness of the paint booth and surrounding areas, tanks, hoses, and nozzles, paint pumps, paint pump pickup tubes, windows, lights, and both load and unload areas, and the paint mixing area.

12. Stage all parts and machines in specific racks and areas for the assembly department with clear markings per job.

13. Communication skills, and self-starter.

14. Upholding quality standards for the paint area.

15. Ensuring that machines are being painted with the correct color.

16. Ensuring that all paperwork is being followed and filled out correctly.

17. Doing final touch up of machines as they are completed in assembly, following quality standards.

18. Other tasks and assignments as assigned by supervisor.

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND COMPETENCIES

1. Good written and oral communication skills.

2. Must have at least one year of painting experience.

3. Must have experience with AA-HVLP paint spray equipment.

4. General hand tool knowledge.

5. Must have good mechanical aptitude.

6. Must be able to learn to fill out appropriate paperwork for order intake, processing, and shipping.

7. Must be able to perform basic math skills.
