The Salish Immersion Early Childhood Education Teacher Trainee 1) preserves and promotes Salish culture and traditions by learning the n̓səl̓xčin̓ (Colville-Okanagan Salish) language; 2) provides care and instruction for children aged 1 to 5 years in an n̓səl̓xčin̓ immersion environment in collaboration other ECE Teachers and the administrative team, and; 3) provides high expectations for the behavior and academic achievement of children while providing them with high levels of support and encouragement. An integral part of this position is participating in an intensive n̓səl̓xčin̓ language training program that includes formal classes and the use of the n̓səl̓xčin̓ language as the language of instruction in an immersion school setting. During the first year of employment, N̓səl̓xčin̓ training makes up just over half of daily work hours; training is not in addition to hours worked.
