DescriptionPeaceHealth is seeking a Grossing Assistant - Pathology for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Evening position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $28.95 – $43.43. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.Job SummaryPerforms gross examination and dissection of high-complexity histological specimens. Provides support of the gross area including the following tasks: order entry, maintenance of equipment, cleaning, and other related tasks.Essential Functions

Performs gross dissection/dictation of surgical pathology tissue within their appropriate scope-of-care.

Prepares frozen section and/or smear slides for intraoperative consultation.

Assists the Pathologists in a professional manner when needed while grossing.

Processes incoming specimens in a timely and efficient manner. Performs order entry of cytology and histology specimens using current LIS.

Labels, print cassettes, and prepares specimens for grossing.

Creates daily logs of the specimen loads.

Documents and communicates all QA incidents appropriately.

Prints histological slides.

Assists Pathologists and the Pathologist Assistant on frozen section procedures.

Cleans and maintains all equipment in area.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation

Associate Degree Required: Laboratory Science. includes chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science And

Bachelor of Science Preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 1 year Required: Laboratory experience and

Preferred: Anatomic pathology experience and

Required: Typing and computer experience

CredentialsSkills

Ability to comply with regulations and protocols for accurately grossing incoming specimens and staying within area of expertise. (Required)

Ability to comply with established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety and infection control procedures. (Required)

Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). (Required)

Ability to interact and build a team environment, collaboratively working together to solve issues. (Required)

Ability to multitask and meet daily workload demands. (Required)

Understanding and use of personal protective equipment and universal precautions. (Required)

Ability to perform work with Integrity, maturity and dependability. (Required)

Understanding of medical terminology. (Required)

Understanding of arithmetic/algebra, basic anatomy and chemistry are beneficial. (Required)

Department / Location Specific NotesLaboratory training will require either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLA, or other organization approved by HHS OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.Working ConditionsLifting

Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.

Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment, frequently.

Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 5 lbs.

Push/Pull: Frequently up to 10 lbs. force.

Reaching frequently.

Squat/ kneel occasionally.

Environmental Conditions

Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Mental/Visual

Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
