Core ResponsibilitiesSet up, Program (MasterCAM, EZCAM, Inventor HSM) and run CNC mills, lathes, and mill-turn centers to customer drawing, PO, and scheduleHold tight tolerances consistently on precision aerospace and defense partsRead and interpret drawings, GD&T, travelers, and setup sheetsSelect and set tooling, establish work-holding and fixturing, and set offsetsMake program edits at the machine where required, and flag program or design issues back to engineering rather than working around themPerform in-process inspection and verify parts before they move to the next operationRun multiple machines in parallel to maximize spindle timeRecord job data accurately and promptly against the traveler — time, quantities, and statusTrain and support machine operators, and help build the setup documentation that lets the next person run the job Baseline Shop ExpectationsThese apply to everyone on the floor, machinists included:Stay alert, stay safe. We work with a lot of machinery and chemicals. Watch for long hair, loose clothing, and hanging jewelry, and stay aware of what is happening around you.Complete scheduled jobs by their scheduled completion times. Other people’s schedules depend on yours.Stay on task. There are a lot of interesting things going on here, but the company stays in business by meeting customer deliverables.Learn and follow established processes. Working from the same playbook is what prevents crashes, confusion, and lost time. We are always open to improvement — keep a running list of what could be better and we prioritize it as a team.Keep the area clean and organized. A dirty shop does not mean more work is getting done. Make a mess when you are in the thick of it, then come back and clean it up — or clean while the machines are running.Room to grow. The shop is evolving quickly, with automation and cobots coming. We expect people to upskill into new roles as those opportunities appear.
