Flex Lane Specialist

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to::Oversee daily operation of the Flex Lane during peak travel periods on assigned shift. This includes, but is not limited to; completing pre-opening tasks, opening the lane, actively monitoring the lane, conducting pre-closing tasks, closing of the lane, etc.Manage Flex Lane maintenance issues by monitoring device health, providing initial device troubleshooting, entering maintenance tickets and coordinating repairs with maintenance contractor and WisDOT ITS maintenance staff.Regularly communicate with law enforcement and responder agencies including Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Dane County Freeway Service Team, and other agencies for incident management on the Beltline.Support development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) associated with the Flex Lane.When not actively managing the Flex Lane or incidents affecting the Flex Lanes, use the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to enter incidents, activate and monitor appropriate Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices (to include Dynamic Message and Lane Control Signs (LCS), Ramp Meters, Detector Stations, and congestion maps).Regular communication and coordination with WisDOT Flex Lane Engineer and management on Flex Lane operation, best practices, areas of improvement, etc.Regular communication with Control Room staff, regional staff, and project staff on issues that may impact the Beltline and Flex Lane.Create LCS entries for emergency lane closures on the Beltline.Gather Flex Lane operational data to aid in decision making and performance reporting.Support winter maintenance activities such as snow clearing from Flex Lane.Coordinate Flex Lane operations during planned special events.Coordination and communication with WisDOT and ATMS vendor on software feedback. Provide suggestions for improvements or enhancements that could benefit Flex Lane operations.Demonstrates proficiency with ATMS software to include; event management, ITS device type and locations, ability to recognize ITS and software issues, as well as other functions.Additional responsibilities include:May be asked to perform Traffic Management Center Operator duties on an as-needed, as requested basisRegularly attends meetings and trainingsOther duties as assigned by WisDOT or AECOM management
