DPW Maintenance Worker Operator II
General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate skilled trades work in a typical Public Works environment including but not limited to; fleet maintenance and repair, operating light and heavy equipment, snow plowing, buildings and grounds, parks duties, tree care, manual labor and related work as apparent or assigned in all weather conditions. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Foreman. Due to the tourist nature of the City, maintenance staff are required to work weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule. The City does not enjoy separate departments under DPW therefore maintenance workers are required to work at all positions to include but not limited to; streets, parks, buildings and grounds, cemeteries, forestry, lakefront and storm water. Extreme early start times are typical year-round. (12:00am-5:00am) On-call status for inclement weather and/or emergencies as necessary. Work on elevated surfaces and on, in or near bodies of water is typical. Mandatory overtime on rotating schedule.
The ideal candidate will have an exemplary employment history, be punctual, mechanically inclined, able to perform or learn the duties of the position, have minimum 5 years experience in a construction, maintenance, service, tree or landscaping setting. Snow plowing experience in a municipal or commercial environment, valid drivers license in good standing and possess a Class B Commercial Drivers License with air brake endorsement prior to employment. Hourly wage for this position is $27.85/hr. Benefits package including pension, health, eye, dental and life insurance. The City may train the candidate it believes most benefits the Department without a CDL at a reduced hourly rate. Overtime rate applies over 40hrs/week and weekend and Holiday work. The selected candidate will be subject to a thorough background investigation. DPW employees must live within a 1 hour response time to the shop.
