Job Description:

The roles of Infrastructure Engineer include responsibility for designing, building, deploying, and maintaining IT infrastructure, while leveraging the latest technologies. An IT infrastructure engineer ensures all the IT systems that support businesses operations of any size to function optimally and efficiently. Additional responsibilities include, upgrading and improving operating environments, creating remediation plans, implementation strategies, and providing support. A successful infrastructure engineer should have good communication and collaboration skills, excellent analytical, problem-solving, time-management skills, and extensive knowledge of server technologies and networking topologies. The ideal candidate will also have experience in project management and giving professional presentations.

We are looking for an infrastructure engineer who is extremely detail-oriented, proficient with the latest distributed and midrange technologies and can flourish in high-pressure environments. The infrastructure engineer will be expected to work with numerous systems, processes, and other technical staff to conduct field analysis, maintenance, and support.

Responsibilities:

Installing and maintaining Windows & Linux operating environments.
Monitoring operating environments.
Ensuring operating environments remain stable and secure.
Manage computing resources (CPU, RAM, and disk).
Updating any software and hardware where necessary.
Manage firewall rules.
Manage security certificates.
Responding effectively and speedily to any problems.
Maintaining a professional demeanor with clients and colleagues.
Providing training and support.
Documenting all reported infrastructure related problems and actions taken in response.
Create PowerShell processes to manage infrastructure.
Design and develop Linux shell or Perl scripts to automate, deploy builds, apply patches, setup connectivity between systems and validate environments.
Champion changes to application architecture, allowing high availability, increased performance, and security.
Experience with NAS data storage.
Author Perl scripts to gather information from switches.
Negotiate maintenance windows with customer for system down time.
Experience with server patching and network maintenance.
Provide infrastructure support for on-prem and off-prem applications in cloud environments.
Provide Linux administration and monitor security relate controls and checks.
Recommend and execute modifications to Linux systems in- order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Provide technical expertise in network configurations appropriate to application needs based on network saturation.

  • Collaborates with engineers, architects, developers and other staff to meet project objectives.
  • Analyzes the technological needs of customers and provides ongoing support for clients.

Problem Solving – Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 3+ years of relevant / direct industry experience. Certifications are often desired. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
