Date Posted:2024-07-22Country:United States of AmericaLocation:HCA21: Aerostructures - Chula Vista 850 Lagoon Blvd, Chula Vista, CA, 91910 USAPosition Role Type:OnsiteCollins Aerospace is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to evaluate manufacturing processes and technologies, tooling philosophies, and inspection methodologies and suggest improvements for sheet metal fabrication, composites, and assembly of nacelles and other aerospace components. You will support Operations sites across Aerostructures (ASG) by providing technical support in order to improve quality and production processes. You will also support Operations deliverables for new business pursuits. In addition, you will evaluate, develop, and organize manufacturing plans, procedures and requirements for new product introduction (NPI) and provide feedback to program and design engineers as well as assist in the manufacturing readiness activities. You will also have the opportunity to review designs for various tools and fixtures as well as assist in the procurement and fabrication of tooling. You will work directly with multiple engineering disciplines (Manufacturing, Design, Quality, Stress, etc.), multiple Operations sites, Programs, and suppliers.What You Will Do:

Assist Manufacturing Engineers in collaborating with Design Engineering for producibility improvement / design changes. Understand product designs and can identify / suggest changes.

Participate in developing digital manufacturing solutions with support from Digital subject matter experts.

Improve manufacturing processes and designs to achieve producibility goals (tool designs, order of operations, etc.).

Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during fabrication.

Assist in the development of assembly flows, floor layouts, and tooling cost estimates to support new business pursuits.

Contribute to problem solving initiatives and challenge status quo (C/A investigations, FPY, escapes, process capability, etc.).

Support Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts and Kaizen events

Perform other duties as required

What You Will Learn:

You will gain hands-on experiences across multiple functions, from design, tooling, manufacturing

You'll learn to understand product designs and contribute ideas for changes to optimize tooling and the manufacturing process

In this role, you will gain experience in interrogating 3D CAD models using CATIA software

Qualifications You Must Have:

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
